Choose a right place

Choosing a right spot in your house is important for the success of working from home. Find and specify it is as the work space. I keep on changing places when I work from home. I sit on chair-desk then I take my laptop and sit on the couch. At times, I lay on my bed to work. Switching places help you stay fresh, I feel.

Optimize your workplace

Keep your work place free from litters and use the space effectively. Keep a water bottle next to your seat. Don’t keep useless things with you. I have a bag in which I keep everything, from diaries to planners, HDD, laptop, chargers, wires, stationary etc. This helps in have all my work material at one place. It also helps in keeping the place clean and organised.

Be prepared for the backups

Draw a plan B and keep it ready in case of any emergency situation. Working from home carry risks, for example power may go off, so save files in the cloud whenever possible.

Stick to the schedule

Work from home means doesn’t give the luxury of working whenever you are free. It will derail your productivity and reputation. Instead develop a plan and stick. If you are working for a client stick to their schedule. If you don’t have working hours fixed by your company, or you are a freelancer, define your working hours and stick to it.

Have a break in between work

Working without a break affects you physically and mentally. To avoid this, take a break from the schedule and spend time with your family members, talk to your friends, and light exercises. After every one hour, I get up and talk a walk. I also do stretching, talking to my family, place with my nephew and niece. Practise breathing excises to help you stay fresh and geared up mentally.

Dress up if required

Many will suggest you to dress up from you work from home, to give you that feel of being at a work place. I say, what’s the point? Until your mind is fresh, you are geared up to work, you have a deadline to meet, what’s the point of wasting time in dressing up for no use. I usually work in my pyjamas/jammies. I only dress up when there’s a video conference call etc. I don’t believe in wasting time at all!

I hope my tips will help you in making the most of your time while you work from home. I know this a tough time and every one seems panic, but let’s just focus on work and think positive.

Stay indoor, Stay safe!
