Pick a specific theme or idea

Picking a specific theme or idea can give your poem a clear goal or objective. This will help you to decide on what images and descriptions you are going to use in your poem.

Read various poems

If you decide on a particular poetic form before writing a poem then choose poem of that particular form and read as many as possible. This will help you to outline your poem according to your theme and form.

Start writing the poem

Now that you have prepared so much, take a pen and start writing verses that comes in your mind according to your favourite theme. You need not take time thinking on each line and correcting it before completing the poem. Write it with a flow and then structure the poem with rhymes and syllables accordingly. Revise your poem

Once you have received feedback on your poem, you should revise it until you feel it is perfect for publishing. Ensure that every line of the poem contributes to the overall goal, theme, or idea that you wanted to convey.
