The Family Man Season 2 Review: ‘I Pressed the Skip Button Many Times’

This has been an experience. Sequels usually don’t live up to the expectations. Frankly, I was waiting for The Family Man season 2 but when I saw the trailer, I didn’t really felt like watching it instantly. I wanted wait for some review. I then asked my facebook fam (which is over 3 lakhs now) for their reviews, if they would recommend it to watch or not. Most of them said ‘yes go for it!’, so I decided to watch it finally.

(don’t expect any spoilers in this post though)

Story:

Second season has some strings attached to the first season (obviously, they had to), but this time the story is all about a group of Sri Lankan Tamil rebels and their plan to assassinate the prime minister of India. Major Sameer (Darshan Kumar) and Sajid Ghani (Shahab Ali) from the previous seasons try to help the Sri Lankan rebels in this plan.

The Family Man Season 2 Reason:

As always, Manoj Bajpayee nailed the character of Srikant Tiwari and so did Samantha Akkineni as Raji and Sharib Hashmi as JK. The character of Chellam sir is adds a fun element to the series as he is the ‘google’ for Srikant. Before even watching the season 2 of The Family Man, I had already seen Chellam sir memes which were hilarious but I couldn’t connect the dots as to why these memes. Now I know it!

For the few first episodes, my hate for Srikant’s wife Suchi (Priyamani) and his daughter Dhriti multiplied. I kept on thinking why Dhriti is such an annoying over-smart kid who talks so disrespectfully with her parents. Such a cliche they show, not all young adults behave or talk like that or disrespect their parents. Though Srikant’s son Atharva was a cute kid just being an 8yo boy which was adorable. Suchi makes Srikant feel that he is wrong and it’s all his fault but reality is the other way round. I was a girl felt so annoying some ladies are, matlab jabjarjasti ke drame karke pati ko torture karo! But I guess that’s how the character was written and Suchi & Dhriti nailed it with their performances.

Let’s talk about Raji now. God! What performance by Samantha! At one point of time, I felt that ‘kya janwar hai yeh aurat bhaisahab, kaise maar ri hai sabko‘.

Sharib is always a treat to watch and gives some serious friendship goals. His punchlines were superb, especially when he reacts to the price of coke in a posh restaurant.

Will there be a Season 3 of The Family Man?

I think yes! This season ends with giving a hint of season 3 which might revolve around China and the pandemic.

Why I felt it was not as good as Season 1?

The storyline was good although why I felt it wasn’t as good as season 1 was maybe because of too much use of Tamil dialogues. And I am a kind of person who prefers to watch over reading which it comes to web series and movies. When I had to read the dialogues in between the scenes, it just kills the flow of watching. And scenes were not just of 1-2 dialogues, the entire sequence was in Tamil which made me hit the ‘skip 10 seconds’ button every time they started talking. And because my interest shook and flow was broken, I just watched the entire series for the sake of watching it and knowing the story.

All in all, I will recommend you to watch it if you are okay with reading the subtitles in between the scenes and it doesn’t annoy you or if you know Tamil (but obviously).

And finally here are the Chellam sir memes that I totally found hilarious!

hahaha! 🤣🤣🤣
