New Punjabi Movies You Must Watch (+Vlog)

In 2019, I first saw a punjabi movie in a theatre with one of my close friends and it ignited a new love for Punjabi movies in me. Though I couldn’t understand it properly because I don’t know Punjabi language that much, but the friend kept on translating the dialogues which was quite helpful. Then I started watching more Punjabi movies, I am still not fluent but now I hardly need a translator as I can understand little better. I have learned that Punjabi movie storylines are completely different which makes it fun to watch, especially the ones setup in villages of Punjab. Here are 5 New Punjabi Movies I recently saw and I really liked.

New Punjabi Movies that I loved:

  • Dil Diyan Gallan (released in 2019)

This is romantic comedy starring Parmish Verma and Wamiqa Gabbi. Heroine is a social media influencer visits London for a speaking assigment in a business school where she meets the hero. She seeks help from the hero to do her photo shoot. The hero is an anti-social-media person (if that’s a word), means he doesn’t like to be on social media and put out updates every now and then. The movie is really interesting and climax, all hearts and awws. This was the first Punjabi movie that I went to watch in the theatre. Fun fact, that time I couldn’t understand Punjabi language but my friend was translating the dialogues for me.

  • Muklawa (released in 2019)

Ammy virk and Sonam bajwa’s Muklawa is a cute romantic comedy punjabi movie which is about an age-old tradition followed in Punjab where even after marriage, bride stays at her house and waits for her ‘maklawa’ where she moves to her husband’s house. The story is all about how the hero tries all tactics just to see and meet his wife once, because he is unable to wait till Maklawa happens. Watch the video, I have explained more in it. But yes, must watch it.

  • Shadaa (released in 2019)

My favourite Diljit Dosanjh paired with Neeru Bajwa, this is also a comedy movie in which hero is not getting married since long, finally meets a girl and falls in love with her. But here’s the twist, that girl doesn’t want to get married but suddenly hero finds out that girl is getting married to someone and then what? Well, for that you have to watch the movie 🙂

  • Tara Mira (released in 2019)

Tara’s (Ranjit bawa, the hero) father wants only the Jatt community to reside in Punjab. Tara mistakes his love interest Mira (Nazia Hussain‎, the heroine) as a Punjabi, but in reality, she belongs to the same caste his father is biased against. Tara requests Mira’s family to pretend to be Jatts but the game of lies soon leads to confusion and chaos as they try to find a way to be together. This is also a comedy movie that you must watch.

  • Sufna (released in 2020)

Starring Ammy Virk and Taania, this is a very beautiful movie in which a carefree aimless man falls in love with girl who is a poor labourer working in the cotton fields. But this relationship is not possible because the girl thinks differently but how they make their way to be together forever is the story and it’s truly heart-touching. This movie made me cry but with joy. Watch the movie to understand why I am saying this.

So, this was the list of new Punjabi movies that I recently watched and loved. I will keep on updating the list as I see more new punjabi movies. Meanwhile checkout others posts and don’t forget to follow me on facebook and instagram.
