After such a long time, I saw a biopic that made me cry. I am a patriotic person and life of soldiers and freedom fighters hit me like anything. I have read a lot of Captain Vikram Batra who was awarded with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest award for valour for his deeds and bravery during the 1999 Kargil War.
The role of Vikram Batra is played by Siddhartha Malhotra in the movie. If you are movie buff and you watch a lot of Hindi movies, you know how the movie is going to be on the basis of its production house. Since it was a dharma movie, I could expect the sad flashbacks and moments that will make one weep (if you cry in movies, like me).
The story begins with captain Vikram Batra’s brother Vishal Batra narrating a story on a talk show about his brother Vikram and then begins the flashback with childhood moments. There is a lot about Captain’s love story with Dimple (played by Kiara Advani) before he decides to join the Indian Army. He was just 24.
Shershaah was captain Vikram’s code name when he went for the kargil war.
The movie is well-scripted and you won’t feel like skipping it even for a moment although I did skip the 2 romantic songs in the beginning of the movie because I wanted to watch more about his army life. But only songs haan, because Dimple was/is an important part of captain Vikram’s life.
I fell in love with the character of Vikram, how brave and happy-go-lucky was he. All hearts and salutes for him.
Last 30 minutes of the movie were very moving and kept me hooked (and also that was the moment when I began to cry and it was legit). Captain Vikram wanted to see victory, he saw victory. He fought till the last breathe.
And don’t even get me started about the last sequence when Mann Bharya is played. Yes, I cried and I cried for all legit reasons.
My heart goes out for Dimple who is still unmarried and continues to love Vikram and of-course, his family.
My heart goes out for all the soldiers, their families and loved ones who had to face such a situation. Eternally grateful to our soldiers.
The end credits of about 12 minutes show the real photos of all the characters, and the name and photos of the soldiers in Vikram Batra’s regiment and the accolades won by them.
It was surprising to see Siddhartha Malhotra in such a role and acing it totally. He gained a new fan after this movie.
All in all, it is a good movie to watch that will make your heart swell with pride. I am instantly adding this one to my list of Best Hindi Patriotic Movies.
