Here is a quick introduction to Haridwar & Rishikesh in which I am briefly sharing about both of these holy and divine cities, before I get into the detailed posts about the places to explore in Haridwar and Rishikesh.

The twin towns of Haridwar and rishikesh lie by the banks of the holy Ganga. Rishikesh is known as the Yoga Capital of the world. The cavalcade of temples and ashrams here are silent witness to the power of prayer, meditation and yoga here in these 2 cities. Centuries-deep rituals are also performed by the Ganga- the most riveting of which remains the evening aarti at har ki Paudi in Haridwar.

Haridwar is just about 20kms from Rishikesh and it hardly feels that are 2 different cities although both have a complete different vibe. Popular places in Haridwar apart from Har ki Paudi are the Patanjali Yogpeeth Ashram and the Divya Yog Mandir Trust associated with Swami Ramdev.

In Rishikesh, the ritualist Ganga snana at triveni Ghat is very moving. Primary sites include Geeta Bhawan shrine and Parmath Niketan Temple. Also, the famous Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula and the bharat mata mandir are main tourist attractions here.

Rishikesh is also famous for various adventure sports such as river rafting, trekking and bungee jumping.
