Manifest review: Manifest is a web series that falls under the category of suspense, sci-fi and supernatural. Flight 828 takes off from Jamaica but when it lands, 5 years have already passed and they are presumed dead. When they land, the world has completely changed, outside as well as inside. Yes, these passengers begin to get weird visions and voices, kind of intuitions that lead them to scenarios where things would have gone wrong if the people who got these ‘callings’ wouldn’t have reached there on time to save a certain person. 3 Seasons are out and streaming on Amazon Prime in India. The mystery is what exactly happened to these passengers, did they time travel or some alien attack happened, mass hypnosis was done? We are yet to find this out.
P.S: A few spoilers inside
Manifest Season 1 Review:
Season 1 was is very intriguing as it sets the plot for the whole story. The landing of the plane after 5 years, introduction to the lead characters Ben Stone, Michaela Stone, Cal Stone, Saanvi Bahl, Olive, Grace, Detective Jared, Robert Vance, Zeke and the Major.
Ben is Michaela’s brother who is also a detective, a cop and cal is Ben’s son. These 3 were on the flight along with more. They are the central focus as the story revolves around these 3. When they land, they begin to experience weird visions, hear sounds and feel things. They term is as ‘the callings’. At first they hide, but soon they cross paths while following the callings, they had to admit and reveal the fact that they are getting these callings.
Though the callings lead them to the situations where someone is trapped or needed help, they are yet to figure out how these callings work. On the other hand, a mysterious person The Major, is trying to solve this mystery of vanishing and returning of the flight. She is conducting experiments on some passengers like guinea pigs in the lab. Dr. Saanvi bahl is one the other hand experimenting to get rid of the strange mark that she got on the blood samples of all the passengers, which she things if she is able to do it, she will get rid of the callings as well.
Cal sneaks out from his house to reach to a strange place in the wood where he saves Zeke. He tells everyone that he got a calling about Zeke and he needed to save him urgently and that’s why he is here.
Zeke has also time-travelled. He got stuck in a cave, he experienced an earthquake and when he woke up, it was 1 year later. He had a year old magazine which had Michaela’s photo on it as well. This and more going on in their personal lives.
Season finale episode ends with the Major revealing that she is yet to confirm is the boy (cal) is the Holy Grail or not. Zeke coming home with Michaela, a murdered disappearing and re-appearing after 82 hours, and then dying again and Cal’s calling where he tells that there is a death date for each passenger.
In the last scene, we see Jared and Zeke fighting while Michaela enters the house and then there is gun-shot heard.
Takeaway from Manifest Season 1:
- Every passenger is getting these callings
- Some passengers share callings (means get same callings) meaning they have to solve the problem together
- Cal might be the holy grail
Manifest Season 2 Review:
Season 2 begins with clarifying whom the bullet hit during the fight between Jared and Zeke. This season seemed more about researching about the death date and trying to find a way to beat it. Some more new characters are introduced in this season like TJ. They continue to follow the callings and save the situations while helping the passengers to redeem themselves and embrace the second chance that they got to reset their lives – forgive, forget and resolve. Grace becomes pregnant and starts to get callings. They also find out that Zeke’s death date and zeke’s health begin to get worse as his death date approaches.
Also, Cal’s life is in danger.
Michaela and Zeke realize that they love each other and Zeke wants to get married to Michaela before dying. Michaela agrees. Jared seems broken because he still loves Michaela. After they get married, they found Cal is missing. The three shadows that Cal used to see in his callings are these 3 guys who abducted Cal.
In the finale episode, the day is Zeke’s death date but they have to save Cal as Zeke and Cal share callings. Zeke beats the death date, he is alive and fine. How? It’s still a mystery.
Season 2 was quick, more mysteries about the disappearing was revealed. They find out that there was a sailor Al-Zura who also disappeared and then reappeared after 10 years. His journal might have the answers to what happened to flight 828 and maybe about the death date.
Also, the Major dies. Only Saanvi and Robert Vance knows this. And yes, the pilot of 828 recreates the same scenario, takes along 1 more passenger and disappears exactly as 828 disappears. No one knows what happened.
Takeaway from Manifest Season 2: Manifest review imdb
- Al-zura’s journal has the answers
- There is a way to beat the death date for these passengers
Manifest Season 3 Review: Manifest review imdb
This season has so many twists and turning points. They found the tailfin of flight 828 in the sea. But how is that even possible? Passengers saw the flight blasted after a day of it’s landing, the world say it in news. Also, the 3 guys who abducted Cal are back to life after 82 days and now they want revenge. Again, a new set of characters are introduced in this season.
New mysteries are created when they (Ben and Saanvi) found that US Govt. has secretly found the burned body of flight 828 and they are researching on it. They are found the Noah’s arc which also has same traces as the flight 828.
As govt. continues to research, Ben, Cal and Saanvi realize that they need to return all these things back to where it came from because it will cause destruction to the world.
Zeke realizes that he has got a new power of empathy means he can feel what someone is feeling.
They continue to follow the callings and uncover more mysteries of how everything is connected, still so many questions left unanswered.
Season finale episode ends with Cal disappearing after touching the tailfin, they returning the tailfin by throwing it in the ocean and the whole flight (inside the research center) disappearing in front of Dr. Gupta. Also, before disappearing of the body of 828, for a moment the pilot of 828 appeared on the seat, taking deep breath and vanishes in the blink of an eye.
Last a few minutes show Cal returning (he has grown up) but there is knife on Grace’s stomach and they hug each other as she dies. Manifest review
Takeaway from Manifest Season 3:
- What about the holy grail?
- What happened to Cal and Grace?
- And the Al-Zura’s journal?
- It is not just about time travelling but there is something from the mythology also, behind what happened to flight 828 and the passengers
- There is divine intervention in all of these incidents
- It’s all connected Manifest review
I binged watched it and completed it in 4 days. I just can’t wait for Manifest season 4. I will update this post with season 4 review as it releases. The incidents that I mentioned in this post might seem like I covered everything but it is not like that. There is so much more to what’s written here. You have to watch it if you sci-fi, time travel, mythology, history, symbolism etc really interests you.
Since this is something that is of my interest, I really liked it. I can give it 4.5/5.
