Masaba Masaba Web Series Review

Before you start to watch it, you get to read a disclaimer that clearly states that it’s fictional. By the end of this season, I was in a way happy that it was all fictional. If how Masaba behaved with her mom Neena Gupta ji was real, I would have felt sorry for her.

Actually, this was something that kept on bugging me through the entire season. How they have portrayed Masaba’s character in the series is really confusing, and at times, really rude. She doesn’t care about her mom’s emotions, she doesn’t care about her work, her deadlines, her staff and anything. The series begin with showing her separation with her husband and then the stories moves forth. I really found it funny (and weird) that she comes to her mom when in need, then fights with her, goes out to sleep with one of her assistants and then instantly decides to move out of her mom’s house, then finds a place to live, finalizes an apartment (phew) and comes back in the evening, only to tell her mom that she is moving out. I felt so bad for Neena ji, she acting is so natural that I could feel how shocked and sad she felt when Masaba tells her that she has came back only to take her stuff.

I always wonder, how girls can be so mean to their moms. Not judging Masaba though, after all it’s fictional and not real (according to the disclaimer, ya?)

Also, what language they use? I mean, do they want to show that people (and with people, I mean girls) who use swear words and abuse, look cool? This is also a stereotype that I really hate. Also, s** & cheating with your mate? I mean what!

This web series is full of such incidents and scenes when you will just want to switch it off, but I continued to watch till the end only to see what exactly is the story they want to show?

There was no back story of how Masaba entered the fashion industry (which I wanted to see), how she made it to the top (it would have been so inspiring for aspiring fashion designers) and something like that.

The only good thing about Masaba Masaba was Neena Gupta ji and her story. It felt great to see how beautifully they weaved her story of how she got the role in Badhaai Ho and the struggle behind it.

All in all, this show is high on drama, and only drama! Again, I am glad that it was all fictional else they would have really portrayed a wrong image of Masaba, at least for me.

Masaba Masaba, season 1, produced by Ashivin Yardi, directed by Sonam Nair is streaming on Netlfix.
