I really can’t find exact date when we Indians have started celebrating Valentine’s Day. I mean it is known to all it is not a Hindu festival. But why we celebrate this day as day of love. Is this day only for soul mates and couples? From where it got its origin? Can I celebrate this day with each and every one whom I love? In this post, I have shared this and all about the history of Valentine’s day and how it all started.
HISTORY OF VALENTINES DAY
Keep patience and read the story, I think this story must know by all. Then only we will understand the real meaning of this day. If we were told this story from the very first, this day won’t have lost its value.
The story of Valentine’s Day begins in the third century with an oppressive Roman emperor and a humble Christian Martyr valentinus. emperor had ordered all Romans to worship twelve gods, and announced it a crime to associate with Christians. But Valentinus was dedicated to the Christ; despite of all the threats he continued to worship christ, this was the reason why the emperor arrested him.
In the last days of his life, the jailer asked him to teach her daughter some lessons. she was blind by birth. Valentinus taught him whatever he had earned during his life. she looked down the world through his eyes. He described the world of nature to her.
One day she asked Valentinus does God really hear our prayers? Valentinus explained her that god listens to each and every prayer of every soul, he asked her why she was asking this.
She told Valentinus “I pray that I might see. I want so much to see everything you’ve told me about!”
Well this was next to impossible, but Valentinus explained her that god knows what is good for us and does what is best for us, we only have to believe him by true heart.
The girl have faith in her god, they both were praying when suddenly here was a brilliant light in there and the girl screamed, “Valentinus, I can see! I can see!”
When he died, he wrote a last note to jailer’s girl. He signed it writing- “From your Valentine.” on February 14, 270 A.D., near a gate that was later named as Porta Valentini in his memory. It is said that Julia planted a pink-blossomed almond tree near his grave. Today, the almond tree remains a symbol of never ending love and friendship. Therefore, every February 14, Saint Valentine’s Day, messages of affection, love, and devotion are exchanged around the world.
Valentines day is also amongst the most beautiful days of the year. This is the day to celebrate and spread love to all, not only to your boyfriends and girlfriends. This valentines let celebrate love and affection to family, friends. Let’s spread love to poor, beggars, strugglers, victims. Let’s pray for the weak ones and bring back the honor and pride of this day. Let’s not make fun of this day by doing insensible acts.
I feel really bad when people connect this beautiful day with religious beliefs. It is all about one’s belief. If you want to, you can celebrate this day and express you love to your loved ones, including your family, parents, little children around you or lover, else… you are free to ignore this day and spend it as a usual day!
