22nd April is celebrated as Earth Day every year, it has become important to take various steps in creating a better environment for future because of the various environmental issue we are facing today. Let us find some effective activities and ideas that we can implement at individual level to bring a change and celebrate Earth Day.
Easy & Fun Earth Day Activities for Kids & Adults
Use Led bulbs or tube lights: Led bulbs can help you save lot of energy; it uses up to 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs. Led bulbs last longer and emit very less heat compared to incandescent bulbs. Led bulbs can be recycled easily but other bulbs like CFL contains mercury and it becomes difficult to dispose in a safe manner.
Buy vegetables from local farmers: Buying vegetables from local farmers will help them earn more than selling it to middlemen. We can also help reduce carbon footprint of transport vehicles and reduce pollution by saving transport cost of local farmers.
Fix water leaks: It is said that many drops of water form an ocean, if there is an unnoticed leakage in our kitchen sink or toilet the amount of water wastage that would happen is beyond, we could imagine. Hence, it is always necessary to keep a time to time check on leakages and fix the issue at the earliest.
Use fewer plastic products: Plastic products are not degradable and takes 1000+ years to decompose and during that process it emits harmful gases to environment which will then cause other problems. We must all avoid using plastic products as much as we can and substitute it with bio degradable products. Always avoid using single use plastics and carry a cloth bag when you go for shopping.
Adapt gardening as a hobby: Gardening can be done anywhere; you don’t have to own a huge piece of land to do gardening. A small terrace or window is enough to start off with gardening. The best way to plant a seed is to start from home.
Create awareness: It is helpful when you can create awareness among people and provide tips and ideas on how to conserve natural resources like water and energy at home. One can always use various social media platforms and spread the message by using their talent.
Make posters with Earth Day related messages: Make creative posters and use attractive slogans, quotes and then post it around walls of your building or locality taking prior permission to celebrate earth day.
Paint a nature related concept to convey the message: If you are creative and like painting then try to paint a picture related to Earth Day which will convey a powerful message to others and make an impact in their lives. You can also frame the picture and place it in your living room for guests to see when they visit your house.
Install solar panels: There are many places today without proper reach of electricity, installing solar panel and using solar energy can change the scenario of such places. Instead of using electric geyser to get hot water in bathroom, you can install a solar panel above your house and use solar water heater.
Plant trees in your locality: Planting a tree is the easiest but the most effective way to celebrate earth day. You can start planting a sapling in your society garden area and encourage other society members to participate with you on this mission.
Make a community to work on sustainable environment strategies: We have various groups and community working on environmental issues around us. Likewise, we too can create a small group in schools, colleges, society, villages or offices that would implement various strategies on attaining sustainable environment.
