Bangkok is one of my favourite cities now. Not just because of it’s shopping markets but also for it’s beautiful temples & palaces. It was the first place that I visited outside India. Yes, my first international trip was to Bangkok and I truly cherish it. I planned my trip and made notes beforehand and it is very important that everyone should. Even if you have a fixed tour planned or you have booked a full package tour, having a list of places that you must visit helps you not to miss any of the attractions. This is because at times, tour packages miss out including some uncommon places. So, here are 9 awesome places to visit in Bangkok.
9 Awesome Places to Visit in Bangkok
1. The Grand Palace
The is the most famous landmark in Bangkok, the Grand Palace. I can say your tour would be incomplete if you don’t visit this amazingly beautiful Palace. It was built in 1782. It was the home of the Thai King, the Royal court and the administrative seat of government for 150 years. It is actually a complex of several buildings. It takes about 3-4 hours, if you want to explore every nook and corner of this palace, which you should… and it’s totally worth!
2. Lumphini Park
This is a 58 hectares lush green garden with walkaways, ponds, lakes and beautiful complexes. I was fortunate that Lumphini park for 10-minutes walk away from my hotel Oriental Residence. I went here for a morning walk and it was truly refreshing.
3. Wat Pho – The temple of reclining Buddha
Wat Pho in Bangkok has a longest reclining buddha statue in the world which is 46 mtrs long. This is one of the most beautiful Buddha temples I have ever seen. Wat Pho is a must visit place in Bangkok. It is also known as the temple of reclining buddha and its official names is Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan. It is a must-visit place in Bangkok.
4. Wat Arun
Another beautiful temple that you just can’t afford to miss is Wat Arun -the temple of Dawn. This temple is situated on the banks of Chao Phraya river. The temple derives its name from the God Arun (Sun God/Surya Dev). If you want to see the real beauty of this temple, either visit early morning during the sunrise or visit it during the sunset. It looks surreal.
5. Asiatique Waterfront
This is highly recommended. Asiatique waterfront is a beautiful place to eat, shop or simply relax. It’s a huge hub and evenings are on fire. If you are lucky, you’ll get to enjoy free Thai Muay Fight too. I loved sitting at the waterfront simply enjoying the Bangkok glittering skyline. You can shop your heart out, it’s the flea market of Bangkok but with good quality products. Also, there are so many restaurants and cafes to hop. I would recommend you to visit this in the evening around 6 and spend time till late night.
6. Jim Thompson House
Jim Thompson was an American businessman and architect who introduced fine silk to the market. This house, situated in the central Bangkok, is a museum with all of the his belongings. You will also get to see how silk is made from the silk worm, live and get to shop from the museum souvenir shop.
7. Chao Phraya River Boat ride
Okay, so this is not a particular place to visit but it’s an experience. You take a boat ride from one point to another (My suggestion would be from Wat Arun to Asiatique Riverfront) and experience the beautiful Bangkok nooks and monuments from the river itself. Many interesting monuments are situated on the banks of this river and hence, taking this boat ride will surely give a nice experience. It also cross the beautiful flower market and some old monuments too.
8. Ocean World
If you want to see penguins, inverted jelly fishes and sharks and other marine mammals, then you must not miss visiting Ocean World.
9. China Town
China town is an interesting street in Bangkok that resembles China and depicts its culture. There are lot of street food stalls, restaurants and shops that makes you feel that you are in China. You can also buy some souvenirs from here.
