Why is Travelling so Important in Life?

Would you believe if I tell you one of my friends HATES travelling? Yes, she does. And loves being stationary, in her own comfort zone and doing every day mundane work. Well, what to say, different people different choices! BUT, I feel travelling is very important in life.

I have grown up travelling religiously. Both of my parents were travellers, despite the fact that my dad had a full-time job. We planned our weekends and holidays and took at least 5-8 holidays a year where 2 were long-distance and others, short escapes. Trust me, I have had the best road-trips with my family as a child. Imagine, Kanpur to Kedarnath, Kanpur to Mumbai, Kanpur to Jammu, and what not… woah, now when I look back and think about those trips, I always wonder if I will be able to go on such trips ever again! Since travelling had been like routine to us, I have learned that is it important as well.

Now, I travel for work more than I travel for leisure. Either it is to seek inspiration and research for my books, or a travel blogging related work or a speaking event/workshop etc. But I never complain, because I get to travel.

People often ask why is travelling so important in life?

Travelling is important because it teaches you about new places, people, cultures and lifestyles. The more to learn about the world, the more you want to learn more!

It also makes you aware about your own self, like your habits, your limits, your urges and your desires. Apart from this, it has been scientifically proven that travelling is good for mental health.

Once in a while, when you step out to travel, it gives your brain a reset-kind-of experience. So, when you come back from travelling, you feel more refreshed and rejuvenated, even if you travelled for work. This is mainly because you see so many people, interact with strangers, so many new things, eat different food and sleep in a different place.

When travelling, some experiences make you confident, some experiences scare you, some might bring tears in your eyes while some give a memory of the lifetime.

Travelling is also an amazing way to learn. May be you get to learn a new technique of problem solving, or a soft skill, a gesture, a salutation, recipe, craft work and what not.

I always say, everyone should travel at least once in 3 months, if your schedule is really hectic else once in a month, may it be for a short escape for 1 day. It is really important as it helps you grow as a person, learn new things and is also better for your mental health.
