Talking about Friendship day, it all started as a marketing gimmick by a famous greeting cards brand, but now has become a day of celebration all across the world. Yes, this is the history of Friendship day.
Mr. Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark cards first organised FRIENDSHIP DAY in 1930. He intended this day to be celebrated on August 2 as a day when people would come together and celebrate their friendships. Soon, people quickly realised that it was only a gimmick and marketing campaign to sell greeting cards from this brand and within no time, this day died down in the US. But when it was introduced, it spread widely and hence, it is still celebrated in some countries on 2nd August.
An International Friendship Day was first proposed on July 30, 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that campaigns to promote and spread awareness on peaceful culture through friendship. The idea of globally celebrating Friendship Day came to Dr Ramon Artemio Bracho on July 20, 1958; As he sat down to have dinner with his friends in Paraguay, the happy group of friends gave way to the World Friendship Crusade. It was meant to be a foundation that would promote friendship and fellowship among humankind, regardless of ethnicity, race, creed, gender or religion.
