I have travelled solo many times. It has its own charm. In fact, my first international trip was a solo trip and trust me, it was the best experience ever. It gave me confidence to make travel plans all by myself and also, explore. I do enjoy travelling with my partner and family but travelling solo is an exciting and liberating experience. - Research on your destination thoroughly. Find out about the local culture, customs, laws and safety advice.
- Don’t forget to purchase travel insurance, even if you’re just going away for a short time.
- Let people know where you’re going, how long you’ll be gone, and how they can contact you in an emergency.
- If possible, travel with a trusted friend or join a tour group.
- Map out your route and the places you plan to visit before you leave.
- Avoid travelling alone at night, especially in unfamiliar areas.
- Keep your valuables safe and don’t carry too much cash around with you.
- Take a portable charger and a spare battery with you.
- Have a backup plan if you get lost.
- Make sure your phone is locked, and use a secure Wi-Fi connection for online activities.
- Don’t accept food or drinks from strangers.
- Dress appropriately for the local culture, and be aware of your body language.
- Be aware of your surroundings and stay alert.
- Only use reputable companies for any transport or accommodation.
- Avoid travelling to remote or isolated areas. If you are planning any new activity such as swimming with dolphins in Punta Cana then be sure to book everything in advance.
