Solo Travel for Women: How I Started Exploring the World Alone

I still remember the first time I booked a trip completely alone, back in 2018, that too an international trip to Thailand. No friends, no family itinerary, no one to coordinate plans with. Just me, a suitcase, curiosity, and a quiet excitement that felt both terrifying and liberating.

Back then, I didn’t realize that solo travel for women would eventually become such a powerful part of my lifestyle. What started as a small step outside my comfort zone slowly turned into one of the most transformative experiences of my life.

Today, apart from being a life coach, author, and blogger since 2013, I also share many of my travel journeys on my YouTube vlog channel. Travel has not only helped me explore the world but also understand myself in deeper ways.

Why Solo Travel Is So Powerful for Women

When women travel alone, something interesting happens.

You stop waiting for permission.

You stop adjusting every plan around someone else’s preferences.

And you begin to realize how capable you actually are.

Solo travel teaches you things that no classroom or book can teach.

You learn:

  • Decision-making

  • Confidence

  • Self-trust

  • Problem-solving

Interestingly, many ideas that later became chapters in my book Shoo the Noises were shaped during quiet travel moments – sitting in cafes, observing life, and reflecting on the internal noise we often carry.

The First Step Is Always the Hardest

Most women who want to try solo travel face the same hesitation:

“Is it safe?”
“What will people say?”
“What if something goes wrong?”

I had those same thoughts too.

But here’s something I realized: the fear often comes from unfamiliarity, not reality.

Once you take that first trip, something shifts. You begin to see travel differently, not as something risky, but as something empowering.

How Solo Travel Changes Your Mindset

Solo travel forces you to rely on yourself.

When your train gets delayed, you figure it out.

When you reach a new city, you navigate it.

When plans change, you adapt.

That independence slowly builds a quiet confidence that spills into other areas of life as well.

As a life coach, I often tell people that growth doesn’t come from comfort zones. Travel, especially solo travel, naturally pushes you into new environments where growth becomes inevitable.

Documenting My Travel Experiences

Over time, I began documenting parts of my journeys on my YouTube channel. Travel vlogs became a way to capture not just places but also emotions and lessons.

Travel isn’t only about destinations.

It’s about:

  • mindset shifts

  • conversations with strangers

  • quiet personal realizations

  • unexpected adventures

These are the moments that make solo travel deeply meaningful.

Simple Tips for Your First Solo Trip

If you’re thinking about trying solo travel for the first time, start small.

Some practical tips:

Choose a safe, familiar destination
Start with cities that are tourist-friendly.

Plan your first few days
Have a loose itinerary to reduce anxiety.

Stay connected
Share your location with someone you trust.

Trust your intuition
Your instincts are usually your best guide.

Solo travel for women isn’t just about visiting new places.

It’s about discovering your independence, confidence, and personal strength.

For me, those journeys eventually shaped my writing, my coaching work, and even the stories I share online.

And every time I step into a new city with just my backpack and curiosity, I’m reminded that sometimes the most powerful journeys are the ones we take alone.
