Rashmi Rocket Review: ‘Breaking Gender Stereotypes, Taapsee Impresses Yet Again’

I have always been a huge fan of Taapsee’s acting, ever since I saw her in Akshay kumar’s Baby. Rashmi Rocket starring Taapsee Pannu is a zee5 original movie that talks about gender testing and how it ruins the career of female athletes. This is my Rashmi Rocket review for you all.

Rashmi, a tom-boyish girl living in Bhuj is a naturally fast runner. Her dad calls her rocket and soon, everyone else begin to call her rocket because of her speed. After winning a couple of medals for the country, Rashmi is asked to undergo gender testing. Although later on it comes out to be a personal rivalry but because of her higher levels of testosterones (kind of a hormone), she is banned to participate in competitions. People (especially rivals) start to doubt her to be a boy or a transgender who is conning the world. This story reminds us of Dutee Chand’s incident who was also a runner and was banned to undergo the same testing, banned from participating and how she fought back.

According to the disclaimer, the movie has inspired from true events but is a work of fiction. Clearly, it’s more like telling the story of Dutee Chand in a revised way. But unlike Dutee’s real story, here Rashmi gets married to an army officer and so on!

Taapsee is known for her natural acting skills and portraying roles that are completely different. Bollywood is male biased, we all know this. Actors like Taapsee breaking the gender stereotypes and winning the hearts with good acting is something that is much needed.

I really liked the storyline and wishes it was 100% true. Apart from Taapsee, Priyanshu painyuli as Rashmi’s husband Major Gagan Thakur, Supriya Pathak as Rashmi’s mother and Abhishek Banerjee as Rashmi’s advocate Eeshit have also done a fab job.

Last 20 minutes of the movie really gave me goosebumps.

I just have 2 words for Rashmi Rocket – Gripping and powerful.
