Set in the folds of the Kumaon foothills lie one of the 12 Jyotirlings – the Jageshwar Temple. It is a complex home to 164 small temples. The bageshwar temple complex at the confluence of the Gomti and Saryu rivers at Bageshwar is 90km from Almora. Makar Sankranti is celebrated with deep devotion at this Shiva temple. While Jageshwar is about 96kms from Nainital which takes about 4 hours to reach, Bageshwar is about 135kms from Nainital and takes about 5-6 hours to reach.
The Atmospheric Gollu Devta temple is eight kms from Almora at Chitai. It is quite unique. About 20km from Tanakpur, the Purnagiri Temple is dedicated to the Goddess Sati/Parvati. Legend has it that this is the spot where naval of the dismembered goddess fell. The Purnagiri Mela (march 15-april 15) during the Chaitra Navratras is one of Kumaon’s biggest fair.
