Mind & Soul

I read the Bhagavad Gita and it changed my LIFE

|| Jai Shri Krishna || Everyone in the world knows about Shri Krishna. He is our God, the eighth avatar of God Vishnu. He is the God of protection, compassion, tenderness, and love. The Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is one of the most precious and sacred holy scriptures for Hinduism. It is a 700-verse scripture based on epic battle of Mahabharata, which is about the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna that happened on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

note:  forgive me in advance if in anyway I hurt your sentiments and belief system.

I have grown up listening to the stories and incidents of Ramayana and Mahabharata. I bought Bhagavad Gita from the Iskcon Temple in Vrindavan and attempted to read it so many times but when I lost my parents, I was drowning in depression and needed helped. As a spiritual person and a practitioner of the Law of attraction since forever, I wanted to try this way to heal myself.

My father used to say that the Bhagavad Gita is one book that has all the answers to the life related questions. I had so many questions about life that I wanted the answers. And trust me, my father was right. Bhagavad Gita has all the answers to all the questions a brain can ever ask for, about life, about love, about emotions and about relationships.

Trust me, reading Bhagavad Gita changed my life 360 degrees!

Bhagavad Gita is my life coach.

So, now you must be wondering how did it exactly changed my life?

Here are the reasons:

  • It taught me about death and life

“vasamsi jirnani yatha vihaya
navani grhnati naro ’parani
tatha sarirani vihaya jirnany
anyani samyati navani dehi”

“Means: As a human being puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.”

“dehino-asmin yatha dehe
kaumaram yauvnam jara
tatha dehantar-praptir-
adhiras tatra na muhyati”

“Means: O Arjuna, Just as boyhood, youth & old age are attributed to the soul & the embodied soul continuously passes through these cycles, similarly the embodied soul passes into another body at death. The wise man does not get deluded & bewildered with such a change.”

“na jayate mriyate va kadacin
nayam bhutva bhavita va na bhuyah
ajo nityah sasvato ’yam purano
na hanyate hanyamane sarire”

“Means: O Arjuna, The soul is never born nor dies at any time. Soul has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. Soul is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. Soul is not slain when the body is slain.”

Though nothing can justify the passing away of my parents, no reason is big enough to make me accept and agree to what ever happened, but reading Bhagavad Gita made me learn about this ultimate reality of life in way that I think of my parents as they are always with me. I cannot see them, I cannot touch them and the pain, the void that was created after they went away forever can never go, but I can feel them, their love, their protection, because their soul is eternal.

  • I became a calmer person

“aapurya-manam achala-prathistham
samudram apah pravishanti yadvat
tadvat-kama yam pravishanti sarve
sa shantim-apnoti na kama-kaami”

“Means: As the water from different rivers enters the Great Ocean, which though full on all sides remains undisturbed, like wise a person who is not disturbed by the incessant flow of desires – can alone achieve peace, and not the man who runs after these desires & strives to satisfy such desires.”

What takes away our mental peace? It is our desires – Desires to learn, to earn, to get more, to please everyone, to become everyone’s favourite. This is a fact. We can become calm if only we don’t let the desires effect our sanity. It is okay to have desires and work for it, but we cannot give these desires power to take away our peace of mind.

So, I started taking it easy, in all aspects of life – work, love, family, life.

  • Work, for the sake of Work

“Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana,
Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani”

You are entitled to doing your duty alone with no reference to its outcome. The outcome shall by no means be attributable to you. Have no affinity with the idleness.

It is very simple to understand. Do the work because you want to DO that particular work, you find joy and peace of mind when doing that work and not because of some other intention. For example, if you want to become an author, you become one because you have something to write and share. Do not focus on how many books you will sell, how much fame you will get and how much money you will earn. Focus should be on the karm (the work) and then leave it on God. You will reap the best fruits and God will give you what you deserve.

Bhagavad Gita is a book of life

This book makes you understand life, its phases, your actions and results:

No philosophy book can clearly state what LIFE means, but this book surely does. It helped me understand the importance of emotions like compassion, kindness and forgiveness. After reading this book, I forgave everyone who hurt me, who did wrong to me and let go all my grudges, because this is what we can do. There is no point in keeping grudges in your heart and feelings that no longer serves you.

I learned so many facts about Karma. I learned so many things about relationships, especially the ones who are against me and think negatively about me and my family.

No, I have not turned into a saint. But this book surely helped me realise how to. fulfil my purpose of life correctly, how to deal with emotions and desires.

I am changed person now and all thanks to this amazing life book Bhagavad Gita. Reading Bhagavad Gita was indeed one of the best decisions ever.
