I first visited Kedarnath in 2010 with my family. It was road trip from Kanpur to Kedarnath & Badrinath in our Santro car. It was such a memorable experience.

Anyway, in this post I answering the most asked question – how to travel to Kedarnath from Delhi?

There are 3 ways to reach Kedarnath from Delhi

  1. Roadways
  2. Railways
  3. Airways

Distance from Delhi to Kedarnath is approx. 450 kms.

Gaurikund is the last point for vehicles and is the point from where the trek of Kedarnath dham begins! It is approx. 14 kms trek up the mountains.

If you are travelling by road, then this will be your route:

Delhi – Meerut – Haridwar – Rudraprayag – Gaurikund – Kedarnath

The highway is good but I would suggest you to pack light and carry lots of water and food.

If you want to travel by aeroplane, then nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. From there you will have to take a cab or bus to Joshimath.

Same goes for railways! Nearest railway station is Haridwar railway station or Rishikesh railway station. From there, take a cab!

If you don’t want to trek, you can book a helicopter. It starts from Sirsi village.

To reach Sirsi, take a bus from Rishikesh towards Guptkashi by following this route: Srinagar – Rudraprayag – Guptkashi – Sirsi.

How much time does it take?

It is approx 12 hours drive from Delhi.

Same is for railways though airways is of shorter duration.

It is 5-6 hours long journey from Dehradun Airport to Sonprayag. After reaching Sonprayag, your last destination is Gaurikund which is 5 km away.

The cost for helicopter is about 4500 – 8000 round trip – to and fro Sirsi

What else?

If you are planning a road trip from Kanpur, Lucknow and near by cities, then need not to go to Delhi, instead take a Bareily highway straight Haridwar.

Haridwar is the centre point. You will have to reach Haridwar/Rishikesh in order to go to Kedarnath.

Best time to Visit Kedarnath?

The best season to Visit Kedarnath Dham is between April to June which is the summer time there. The temperature is moderate and stays between 15-30 degree celsius.

Highways also shut during winter season so I will suggest you check before planning.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions!
