How to Choose the Right Perfume or Deo?

Perfume and deodorant both are different products but the purpose they serve is somewhat similar. Perfume has up to 25% of perfume essence while deodorant has 1%-2% perfume essence in it, hence perfume’s fragrance lasts for a day and Deodorant’s fragrance stays only for a while.

Perfume doesn’t have any antiperspirant to help you smell good when you sweat but deodorant comes with antiperspirant that keeps you fresh and absorbs sweat. Perfume is highly concentrated and should not be used directly on skin but deodorant can be applied directly on skin. Premium Perfume is often expensive. Deodorant is affordable.

Now that you know the difference between perfume and deodorant, here are some points to consider before you choose a perfume or deodorant.

  • Know about the different scents

There are different types of scents available in perfumes and deodorants like floral (feminine), citrus(refreshing) spicy (vanilla, cinnamon) and woody (earthy). Perfume comes in liquid spray form, deodorant comes in spray, roll-on, gel or cream and invisible solid form.

  • Know your skin type

Identify your skin type to test how perfume or deodorant smells on you. If you have sensitive skin avoid strong chemicals or choose hypoallergenic deodorants. Fragrances last longer on oily skin so apply deodorants on moisturised skin. Choose strong scents with wooden and aromatic notes on dry skin.

  • Pay attention to the notes

Perfume comprises of top or head notes, middle or heart notes and base notes. The scent perceived immediately after it’s sprayed is top note, the scent that emerges just prior to the dissipation of top note is heart note and the scent that you get after 30 minutes of application is base note.

So, concentrate more on heart and base note before selecting the fragrance.

  • Select the right concentration

Perfume and deodorants with high concentration of perfume essence lasts for a longer time. If you prefer a light scent but need your deodorant to absorb sweat then there are deodorants that offer very light to neutral scent.

  • Test the sample fragrance before buying

Carefully test the sample fragrance before buying a perfume. If possible, let it sit on you for a day and check how it smells throughout the day. Deodorants can be bought immediately after testing sample as they are affordable unlike premium perfumes.
