If you have been a follower since long, you know such a huge movie buff I am. I just read the description of this movie Haseen Dillruba and felt I should watch it.
Starring Taapsee Pannu (as Rani) and Vikrant Massey (as Rishu), this is a suspense murder mystery where police inspector in-charge of the case (Abhijeet from CID, Aditya Srivastava) suspects Rani to have murdered her husband Rishu. The story begins with a blast which set the plot that a murder has happened. Then the background story is shown where Rishu goes to meet Rani through an arranged marriage setup and after the first meeting, Rishu gets ‘Rani’ tattooed on his wrist. How creepy is that? Pehli meeting me tattoo banwa liya. #PsycoAlert
From this very moment, I felt that maybe Rani has killed Rishu for being a psyco but the story has a twist, which I am not going to reveal.
Some scenes proved such a big psyco Rishu is because he intentionally tried to kill Rani, by leaving the gas knob on, etc. and I kept on wondering what kind of a toxic relation is this? In the beginning of the movie, Rani has been portrayed as a bold and rude girl (muh-fatt types), who slams everyone who questions her, for example her mother, mother-in-law et al. But when Rishu begins to torture her, she can’t even say a dialogue properly without crying. She is silently letting Rishu do whatever he wants and this is her (weird) of making Rishu forgive her for cheating on him. WTH!
Rani is a huge fan of author Dinesh Pandit who writes steamy murder mysteries. If you are wondering, if Dinesh Pandit is real? No, he is not. Although, I felt the imaginery character of Dinesh Pandit has been inspired from famous Hindi writer Surendra Mohan Pathak ji.
Kanika Dillion is has penned movies like Kedarnath, Judgementall Hai Kya and Manmarziyaan, and now this one. Director of this Netflix original movie is Vinil Mathew.
I have read Roald Dahl’s short story,’ Lamb to the Slaughter’ and I strongly feel this story is inspired from this short story.
Haseen Dillruba Movie Review
Though the story is interesting, I felt the execution was not that good. There were some scenes where I felt were ‘too much’ and ‘over’ and kind of annoying. But the ending was unexpected although if you have watched Castle (the series) and read Agatha Christie novels, you will easily be able to crack the story after a while. Also, at some places I felt I was watching a shady movie.
All in all, it’s a one-time watch. I’ll give 2 stars, maybe!
You can watch Haseen Dillruba on Netflix.
