Gehraiyaan starring Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey and Siddhant Chaturvedi, directed by Shakun Batra is streaming on Amazon Prime.
At first I thought I will skip writing the movie review of Gehraiyaan because I was actually expecting something really different but I was so disappointed after watching it. But then, I couldn’t resist it so here you go!
And yes, spoiler inside so PLEASE don’t read ahead if you want don’t the ‘suspense’ to be maintained when you watch the movie.

Gehraiyaan Review with Story:
Alisha (Deepika) and Tia (Ananya) are cousins. Tia is super rich, living in London, about to Marry Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi), also a super rich guy who rents a yacht to woo his clients. Also, Zain is rich because he worked with/for Tia’s father in the real estate business and his actions tells that he is with Tia only because of her money and father’s support. Here in India, Alisha is also dating a guy (Dhairya Karwa) who is a struggling author and they are going through financial crisis. Also, Alisha run her Yoga studio and is looking for investors to invest in her Yoga app.
Now, 4 of them go on a holiday to Alibaug in Zain’s rented Yacht. Zain flirts with Alisha. Alisha falls for him. They both cheat on their partners. Then Zain has to face some major financial crisis, so decides to get back with Tia and ditch Alisha, because money obviously!
Now Alisha is shattered and yes, pregnant with Zain’s child.
Zain has only one way out, kill Alisha but accidentally he dies.
Adding a mental health angle to this plot didn’t really work for me. While watching the movie, I kept on wondering why these 2 Alisha and Zain are punishing the other 2, just because they trusted and loved them? Also, a murder happens, Alisha was on the yacht, she comes back in the yacht after Zain falls from it – no investigation happens, she never takes any actions especially when his partner clearly tell Alisha that they planned to kill her and finally, everyone is happy after a few months and all is sort.
Over-use of the ‘F’ word (sorry can’t write the word, google policy). And what’s with their wardrobe! Also, how can I not mention the random clips of ocean waves during scene transitions just to justify the title – Gehraiyaan as deep as the ocean!
I just kept on wondering what they are trying to show? That it’s okay to cheat on your partner? Or the man should not follow their passion but work to pay household bills but his woman want follow her passion? Means Deepika didn’t want to feel ‘stuck’ and end up like her mom; so she can’t handle her partner’s cribbing (although she knows that he is going through a tough time) and she feels ‘stuck’ because she is the one who wants to pay the household bills. What kind of progressive mindset is that? Cringe-worthy!
And I strongly feel that Shakun Batra casted Ananya and Siddhant together because they went viral because of their round table interview.
Watch this movie if you want to get some beach wear inspiration for both men and women and good views from a resort in Goa.
FYI: The resort is Ahilya by the sea, located in Nerul, Goa. You can thank me later for this!
