Anasakti Ashram also known as Gandhi Ashram is a peaceful place in Kausani, Uttarakhand. Mahatma Gandhi stayed here for 2 weeks in 1929. He described this place as the Switzerland of India and instantly fell in love with the pristine beauty and serenity of the place.
He also treatise and practised the Anasakti Yoga here, which the reason behind the name of this place as Anasakti Ashram. Photography is not allowed inside the ashram, so we could only take photos from the outside.
There is also a small prayer room in this ashram where prayers are held every morning and evening and people from all across join in for the prayer. Inside the ashram are the rare photos, books and handwritten letters of and by Gandhi ji respectively. This also merged with research centre, hence students from all across the globe come here for their research work. Tourists can also access the library which has an amazing collection of old books.
If someone wants to stay here, rate of the room is just INR 300 while meal cost is INR 50. Ample of parking space is available. It is suggested to first call and confirm stay booking as the rooms are less and usually occupied.
Though, we didn’t stay there but surely we were able to explore the nooks and corners of the ashram. The view from the ashram is amazing and makes you want to stay there!
Some of the famous Himalayan peaks are also visible from the ashram, including the Trishul parvat.
All in all, it’s nice place to visit. If you are out for sight-seeing in Kausani, this ashram should be there in your list as this place offers a great view that is surely treat to the eyes!
