I love visiting the ISKCON Temples. The first ISKCON temple that I visited was in Vrindavan. I instantly feel in love with the divine vibes of the temple. ISKCON actually stands for International Society for Krishna Consciousness which is a religious organization and was founded in 1966 in New York City by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
ISKCON temples are present all over the world. I have visited many ISKON temples in India and now, whenever I travel to any place, if there is an ISKON temple present, I make sure I visit it, especially during the aarti timings.
Aartis as ISKCON are truly divine. The saints, pandits, volunteers and bhakts sing and dance together on the famous bhajan Hare Krishna Hare Rama. It is truly mesmerising to witness this and be a part of it. One forgets all of its worries and thoughts and totally gets lost in the divine vibes of that moment.
Now just this, but ISKCON temples are not just temples but a lot more than that. It is a place to relax and reflect. Every ISKCON temples has bookshops, a Govind restaurant (i.e. a pure vegetarian restaurant), shopping complex (where you can buy religious items like lord’s photos, idols, pendants, and other souvenirs), volunteers department (where you can volunteer and help in temple maintenance, cleaning or simply making flower garlands) and rooms. Yes, you can actually stay in the ISKCON rooms. The rooms are available for all and not just the members. You can simply book the rooms visiting their reception area or online. Also, don’t expect it to be like a 5-star, but the rooms are simple, neat, clean and have all the required amenities.
Some ISKCONs also have huge banquet halls that you can book for functions, especially Hindu weddings.
Some ISKCONs, like in Kanpur, have beautiful lush green gardens for people to simply sit, relax or meditate.
I witnessed a beautiful wedding in ISKCON Delhi and it was really beautiful, although a bit crowded, mainly because people like me who had gone for the evening aarti were peeking inside the halls to witness the beautiful wedding 😛
I have read on web that there have been many controversies around this organisation but what’s the truth behind it, only Krishna knows and maybe the people involved in it.
I was so happy when ISKCON Kanpur was inaugurated. So, far I have visit ISKCON Vrindavan, ISKCON Delhi, ISKCON Mumbai and ISKCON Bangalore.
In fact, we celebrated my niece’s 1st birthday within the ISKCON Bangalore premises in a restaurant called Higher Taste. It is a pure-veg fine-dine restaurant which was just perfect for a small family gathering.
