Kanpur, once called as the Manchester of East, is not just famous for leather goods. I read on wikipedia that Kanpur is also known as the leather city of the world. My home city Kanpur is also known for its beautiful colonial architecture, historical monuments, old temples and parks. But now, there is newly established attraction which is also something that is good for the environment. I am talking about Asia’s largest and India’s first plastic waste LUDO PARK in Kanpur.
We have heard about life-size chess boards and even snake & ladders boards, but Ludo board is a first and that too, made from recycled plastic waste. Approximately 1978 kg of plastic waste has been used to prepare this beautiful park. Kudos to Kanpur Nagar Nigam!
This is located inside the Kargil Park in Moti Jheel. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in India was also included in India book of records and Asia book of records as the largest Ludo Board made from upcycling plastic waste.
The main idea behind this is to spread awareness about reducing the usage of plastic and saying no to one-time plastic items.
Plastic is very harmful for our environment. You will be surprised to know that a single plastic bottle takes about 450 years to decompose. This means a single plastic bottle you use stays on earth way WAY longer than you live and will be there even when your 4th or 5th generation is born. Woah! That is just 1 plastic bottle. Now imagine how many plastic bottles, straws, packets, plastic forks and spoons etc you use every day that is just getting added up as garbage that is going to stay for thousands of years to come.
This is just one point about decomposition, but there are many more ways how plastic is harmful for us.
When I read this data, I felt so scared that I decided to take a step to spread more awareness amongst people by starting ResponsibleYatri.org, because I believe when one is aware, they may take necessary actions to avoid the harm. It all starts with awareness.
So, coming back to this huge Plastic-Waste Ludo Park in Kanpur.
There are stools places instead of ‘gotis’ which makes it more interesting. With this, people can form teams and be in their color house and impersonate the gotis. This is a fun place for kids as well as for adults.
Although when I went there, it was not as decorated and clean as it should be. Since this is something that holds Asia-level importance, I believe Nagar Nigam or Moti Jheel care-takers should at least clean it every day.
This Ludo park deserves a lot more attention than it is getting. Though it is a small part inside the kargil park but the place is simply beautiful. There is kids play area, a nav-greh garden and open gym next to it. And the other side has a huge lake. The sight here is simply beautiful and so serene. See!
You may go there not just to witness this Ludo park but also to unwind and spend some time amidst nature.
