7 Important Tips to Travel Responsibly

Did you know? Every year, approx. 1.2 billion people travel abroad, making tourism as one of the largest industries in the world. But imagine you reach a very beautiful beach or a long lost abandoned fort but it is full of used bottles and polythenes. How would you feel? Obviously bad. But sometimes knowingly or unknowingly, people become a little careless when they travel. Here are my 7 important tips to travel responsibly to help you out:

7 Important Tips to Travel Responsibly
7 Important Tips to Travel Responsibly
1) Leave no trace:
Do not throw your coffee cups, bottles, polybags, sachets, wrappers etc. in a tourist place. You are a tourist but it’s a home for someone, keep it clean! Many people go for a jungle safari and book safari online from websites such as Safari World Tours. When they visit the place, they throw plastic wrappers and bottles here and there which not affects the environment but also hampers the company image and the local community. Do not do that.
2) Carry your own shopping bag:
Who doesn’t like to shop when travelling. So, always carry your own shopping bag in order to avoid taking one-time use eco-enemy plastic bags or polythenes from the shop!
3) Carry your water bottle:
There are water filters in all tourist places, you can always refill. This is better than buying a water bottle every now and then and increasing the plastic pollution.
4) Support local economy:
We don’t bargain when buying from big brands who have over million dollars turnover, why to bargain with hardworking local artisan, handicrafters and vendors? When you travel to a place, try support the local economy by buying from local shops and artisans and try NOT to bargain. You must be wondering why this is related to responsible travelling? Well, when someone supports local economy, it not just helps the poor vendor’s family but also it helps in development of that place resulting into better sustainable facilities.
5) Use public transport when possible:
Now, almost every tourist place has shuttle services, hop-on-hop-off or bus services for sight-seeing. Avoid private vehicles and switch to public transport when possible or share the cab! This helps in reducing the carbon footprints as well.
6) Switch off
People often leave switches on when they stay in a hotel, resort, hostel or airbnb. Don’t do that! Switching off the electronic appliances and switches when not in use is not just about saving your own electricity bill at home, but it is about saving the electrical energy as well in order to reduce carbon footprints. Every single person in every single place on earth needs to save electricity. That this why we have Earth Hour.
7) Save water
Same like electricity, we need to conserve water as well especially during travelling. Said enough on this!
