‘Shant’ (शांत) is a Hindi word which means peace, calm and quiet. There are all kinds of people in the world, some love the noisy celebration while some really don’t like it. But that’s okay. Too much noise and pollution can someone make you feel overwhelmed and perhaps angry. Many times it happens to me, especially when someone lights the long chatai (चटाई) cracker in Diwali. And researches have shown that the perception and choices of people have changed after the pandemic big-time! People now prefer quiet and peaceful celebrations with less people. Some people travel during Diwali in order to escape the chaos. So in this post, I am sharing 5 quiet & pollution free places to visit in India for a ‘shant’ Diwali. Let’s dive in!
5 Quiet & Pollution Free Places to Visit in India for a shant Diwali
- Chaukori
I visited Chaukori with Uttarakhand Tourism some time back. Chaukori is in Pithoragarh district of Kumaon region in Uttarakhand state. This is a quaint little hill station that is always peaceful and pollution-free because of less crowd. You can also enjoy the beautiful view of majestic Panchachulli range. I would recommend you to stay in KMVN Tourist Rest House in Chaukori as I have stayed here and it has the best view ever!
- Jibhi
if not Uttarakhand, then you can always plan a trip to Himachal Pradesh for beautiful hill stations and here we suggest you to goto Jibhi. Jibhi is one of the most peaceful hill towns. You can book a local homestay or stay in a hostel and enjoy your festival there.
- Andamans
Andaman and Nicobar islands is one of my most favourite places. Although, the number of tourists have increased in Andamans over the years but still it is less crowded as compared to other popular tourist destinations in India. Main reasons is perhaps that Andaman trip can be quite expensive. Therefore, if your budget allows, escape to Andamans this Diwali.
- Pahalgam
Pahalgam, situated in Jammu & Kashmir is truly heaven on Earth. During this time of the year, it is less crowded and the climate is very beautiful. Also, since this a hill station it is mostly pollution-free and quiet. Not just Pahalgam but you can also go to Anantnag; and if you visit there, don’t forget to visit the beautiful Martand Sun temple.
- Kovalam
If you are fan of beach locations then Kovalam should be your choice. Unlike, Goa and Pondicherry, Kovalam in Kerala is less crowded and pollution-free. It has beautiful beaches and almost all kinds of options to stay – hostels, resorts & hotels. I have been to Kovalam and I really like it. You must visit too!
India has many many off-beat locations that are pollution-free and peaceful. Although these were my top 5 suggestions for a peaceful and pollution-free Diwali but you can always explore more options. Hope this helps!
