Diwali is the most awaited festival in India and we all love it. But it can be very stressful for animals, because of the fireworks and crackers. Not just this, but even the noise is very harmful for animals as most animals have hearing ability much higher than humans. This means, what we hear, the animals hear it 10 times more. And pity that they can’t even close their ears like we humans can do!

This year, let us celebrate Diwali responsibly and in a way that it does not harm the animals. In this post I am sharing some easy-to-follow tips to take care for animals this Diwali.

Here’s what can be done:

  • Give water

Fireworks and smog is harmful for all living beings including the animals. So, I suggest you to place a bowl of water outside your houses to keep them hydrated. This will also decrease the anxiety and throat-stress in animals.

  • Shelter

Since almost all roads have people bursting fireworks and crackers in Diwali, stray animals don’t get place to hide. They keep on running here and there to look for shelter. You can open your parking space or lawns to give shelter to these animals during the Diwali.

  • Don’t and Don’t Let People Annoy Animals

Some people think it is fun to annoy animals during Diwali. I have seen boys tying crackers on dog’s tails and lighting them to scare these poor creatures. If you are one of those people, please don’t do this and if you see someone doing such an act, stop them immediately and make the animal run away.

  • Stay away from trees

Trees are not just important to us but also to bird. Trees give us oxygen to breathe and is house to many birds. Do not burst crackers or light fireworks near trees. And if you see someone doing it, stop them immediately.

  • Clean the burnt crackers leftovers

Mostly people do not care about picking up the leftovers the day after Diwali. Mainly because they think that they burnt the crackers on the road and since it is a public place, they wait for the nagar-nigam people to come and clean. But this is very dangerous. Crackers are made of harmful compounds and chemicals. Animals die after eating it. So, I request you to clean the mess you create. If it is too much of work, then you can simply wash it off by throwing a couple of bucket full of water.

  • Help the needy

If you come across any injured animals or bird, please don’t leave it there; instead take them immediately to the help centre and if you know the first aid, them do it yourself. But try to save the innocent lives.

I request you to follow these tips and please please share it, in order to make people awareness. Kindness costs nothing. With a little compromise, we can save innocent lives. After all, animals too are God’s creation and we can always help, because we can!
