fasting while travelling: Navratri 2022 starts on 26 Sept (Monday) and ends on 5 Oct (Wednesday).

Many people (including me) keep vrats (fasts) during Navratri. Mostly I keep the first and the last vrat but I have also tried keeping vrat for 9 days. It is very difficult and I have a special corner for those who keep fasts during Navratri. At times, you have some travel plans and it becomes very difficult to keep up with the fasting rules. Also, it makes you feel week and can become a bit exhausting. Don’t worry! I have kept fasts while travelling and if you pick the right things to eat, you can feel energetic all day long. Here in this post, I am sharing 5 Navratri food items to eat if you are fasting while travelling.

  • Vrat ke aloo

Who doesn’t love the versatile potatoes? In vrat, there are so many ways to eat potatoes but the best and easiest thing is vrat ke aloo, the scrambled way. Now, there are 2 ways to eat this while travelling. First way is to prepare the scrambled potatoes (kalahre aloo) from your home and carry. And the second way is to take boiled potatoes, tomatoes, sendha namak, mirchi and dahi with you. Whenever you feel hungry, prepare it and eat it.

  • Kuttu ke paranthe

Kuttu or singhadhe ka atta is only allowed during the Navratri fasts. Kuttu ke paranthe with curd is one of the best Navratri food items to eat when you are fasting while travelling. You can prepare it from home and carry with you. You can keep these paranthes for more than 8 hours and still eat it. You can add tomatoes and cucumber in the curd to make your meal even more fuller.

  • Sabudana Vrat Items

Sabudana is one of the most preferred and loved Navratri food items. There are so many dishes that can be made from sabudana like sabudana pakore and sabudana khichdi. It is travel friendly, can be kept for a few hours and will surely make you feel fuller and energetic while travelling.

  • Aloo or Paneer Chops

Chops or pakore are very travel friendly as they can kept for many hours and easy to eat anytime and anywhere. Just like sabudana pakore, you can also eat aloo and paneer chops. Again, don’t forget to carry curd or tomato chutney along.

  • Sabzi Poori Combo

Here’s a Navratri food item that is also a complete meal. Yes, you can eat sabzi poori combo. But since you are travelling, I will suggest you to avoid carrying curry sabzi but try something dry like aloo fry, paneer fry or kaddu (pumpkin). Also, make sure your pooris are made only from kuttu or singhada atta.

With all of these things, you can take tomato or coriander-chilli chutney and curd with it. The items should be prepared in the most hygienic conditions and strictly without onion, garlic and turmeric.

Apart from these, you can also eat a lot of fruits and drink fruit juice all day long, to keep your energy levels up. I really hope you found this article useful. Happy fasting and happy Navratri!
