Holi ayi re kanhaiee.. Well, this is common song that you might hear in the galiyas of Mathura and Vrindavan. These twin cities have the birthplace of Shri Krishna, our natkhat Kanha. If you are a Hindu or have knowledge about Hindu Gods, you must be knowing how Krishna ji was so much fond of Holi. Because of this, Mathura Vrindavan celebrates Holi in a very traditional and playful way. Millions of people from all across the world come to these twin cities to celebrate Holi and to witness the excitement of this festival. There are 3 interesting types of Holi in Vrindavan and Mathura and in this post, I am going to talk about the same.
3 Interesting Types of Holi in Vrindavan & Mathura
Phoolon wali Holi:
Phoolon wali Holi is also known as “Banke Bihari Holi” is the most magical type of Holi celebrated in the world. It is celebrated in the Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan. In this type of Holi, instead of colors, flowers are used to play Holi. Devotees gather in the temple premises and throw flowers at each other while singing and dancing to devotional songs. Within the temple, they also shower flowers on everyone which makes the experience even more magical. The atmosphere is filled with the fragrance of flowers. It is an experience that you must do once in your lifetime.
Lathmar Holi:
Lathmar Holi is celebrated in the neighboring town of Barsana, which is famous for its Radha Rani Temple. In this type of Holi, women playfully hit men with sticks, and men try to protect themselves by using shields. The legend behind this tradition is that Lord Krishna used to visit Barsana to play Holi with Radha Rani and her friends, but the women of Barsana would chase him away with sticks. This is why Lathmar Holi is celebrated. If you are planning to go for this one, make sure you maintain distance from people participating in the celebration because women and men don’t spare anyone coming in between.
Rangeeli Holi:
Rangeeli Holi is the traditional Holi celebrated throughout India, and it is also celebrated in Vrindavan and Mathura. In this type of Holi, people play with colors, dance, sing, and enjoy traditional Holi delicacies like gujiya, thandai, and malpua. Devotees gather in the temple premises, where they sing and dance to devotional songs. The echoes of mantras and Krishna bhajans makes the celebrations even more memorable.
