  1. The actual date of our Independence was supposed to be July 18, 1947, but Britain’s Lord Mountbatten changed the date to coincide with the second anniversary of Japan’s surrender to the Allied Forces on August 15.
  2. The tri-color flag, which is the national flag of India was developed by a freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya, who was a farmer from Machilipatnam.
  3. Our national flag Tiranga is based on the Swaraj Flag
  4. India did not have an official national anthem at the time of independence.
  5. Our national anthem Jana Gana Mana was adopted three years after the independence in 1950, although it was written way back in 1911
  6. Lord Mountbatten was the first Governor-General of India
  7. Pt. Jawarhar Lal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India
  8. The national song ‘Vande Mataram’  was the part of the novel Anandamath, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 1880s
  9. Vande Mataram was adopted as the national song on 24 January 1950
  10. Apart from India, 5 more countries celebrate their Independence Day on 15th August. These countries are Bahrain,  North Korea, South Korea, Liechtenstein and the Republic of Congo
  11. Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Samyukta Sangh are the ONLY and official makers of our National flag who have the license to manufacture the tricolour, as per Bureau of Indian Standards. They only have the authority to manufacture and supply the Indian flag. Although, now there are several other small printers and vendors who make the National flag but it not the original and authentic one.
  12. Goa was a Portuguese state when India became independent. It became a part of the Indian union in 1961
  13. Hindi is India’s first official language
  14. The border between India and Pakistan was drawn by British lawyer Sir Cyrill Radcliffe
  15. India has the LARGEST democracy in the WORLD
