How to Host a Traditional Christmas Dinner

You must have read so many posts about Christmas on this blog, obviously you will because I am such a huge Christmas and Diwali fan. Although, I love all festivals that fall on the second half of the year and it’s vibes. Though, for other posts on Christmas, like Christmas decor, Christmas movies, cards, books and all, I researched and wrote it all by myself. But let me be honest here, I am not a Christian girl and I don’t know how to host a traditional Christmas dinner. I have been to so many traditional Christmas dinners but never hosted any. So, for this post I took a help of my friend Jasmine, who helped me write this article for you all. She is a Christian and have been hosting traditional Christmas dinner every year. Please pardon me in advance if there’s an err in the tips below, although she cross-checked this article and got it approved from her mom.

So, let’s see how to host a traditional Christmas dinner! Below are the tips that you must follow:

  • Create a guest list

This is the first step to begin planning a Christmas dinner. See whom would you like to invite and have a proper list made with you

  • Plan the menu

Once your guest list is ready, plan the menu accordingly. Everyone has different choice of cuisines, so make sure you keep something that is loved by all. For example, some people don’t like to eat non-veg, some are hardcore non-veg lovers, so you have to plan a menu that suits everyone

  • Types of dishes

You have to have starters, sides, main course and a dessert. Sometimes, starters are so heavy that people often skip eating the main course. Think and plan the types of dishes accordingly.

  • Entertainment

How long is your Christmas dinner gonna be? Make sure you have something good planned for entertainment, just in case you as a host of this Christmas dinner are busy is setting-up the table for dinner and your guests don’t start to feel bored. Not just for adults but also have some games or some activities etc planned for kids to make it memorable for them

  • Christmas decor

You are hosting the Christmas dinner, you have to make sure your house/place is ready. Decorate the place with fairy-lights, Christmas flowers and but obviously, a Christmas tree.

  • Return gifts

Yes, you have to give a return gift to your guests. Now, these return gifts can be a box of chocolates, cookies, maybe a home decor item, or a Christmas souvenir.

  • Prayer Document

Every traditional Christmas dinner begins with a reciting a prayer. Now different people say different prayer. So, you as a host have to make sure that you have printout of the prayer that you all will say before starting to eat, handy with you. Now, you can either get a printout or you can hand-write it in pages/books or maybe you can buy little prayer books from the market. You can also sing some Christmas carols before the dinner, and make sure you have a document ready for that also. This helps the guests, just in case they forget the wordings.
