Determining the “best” state for celebrating Holi in India depends on various factors, including personal preferences, the type of Holi experience you’re seeking, and the cultural significance you wish to explore. However, some states are renowned for their particularly vibrant and unique Holi celebrations:
- Uttar Pradesh (Mathura and Vrindavan): These sacred towns, associated with the childhood of Lord Krishna, offer a deeply traditional and spiritually enriching Holi experience. Mathura and Vrindavan are famous for their lively festivities, including the iconic Lathmar Holi and other colorful rituals.
- Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur): Known for its regal charm and grandeur, Rajasthan celebrates Holi with a royal touch. Cities like Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur host magnificent processions, cultural events, and lavish celebrations against the backdrop of majestic forts and palaces.
- West Bengal (Shantiniketan): Shantiniketan, the abode of Rabindranath Tagore, offers a cultural extravaganza during Holi known as Basanta Utsav. This celebration is marked by artistic performances, poetry recitations, and the throwing of colors amidst the serene ambiance of Tagore’s ashram.
- Delhi: The capital city of India bursts into a riot of colors during Holi, with enthusiastic celebrations taking place in every neighborhood. From traditional gatherings to lively street parties, Delhi offers a dynamic and diverse Holi experience, catering to all tastes and preferences.
Ultimately, the “best” state for Holi in India is subjective and depends on your interests, whether you seek spiritual immersion, royal grandeur, cultural enrichment, or simply want to revel in the joyous atmosphere of this vibrant festival. Each state offers its own unique charm and flavor, promising an unforgettable Holi experience for travelers and revelers alike.
I personally feel Uttar Pradesh is the best state for Holi in India because here, we celebrate holi for almost 10 days, till ganga mela and phoolon ki Holi in Vrindavan Banke Bihar temple is one of its kinds experience.
