“Terminator Genisys” is a science fiction action movie released in 2015. It is the fifth installment in the Terminator film series and serves as both a sequel and a reboot of the franchise. The film was directed by Alan Taylor and produced by Skydance Media.
Plot summary:
In “Terminator Genisys,” the story revolves around the war between humanity and Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that becomes self-aware and launches nuclear missiles, leading to a global apocalypse. Skynet also deploys killer machines known as Terminators to exterminate the remaining human resistance.
The film begins in the post-apocalyptic future where John Connor (played by Jason Clarke) is leading the human resistance against the machines. The resistance launches an assault on a Skynet facility, and John Connor sends his loyal soldier, Kyle Reese (played by Jai Courtney), back in time to protect his mother, Sarah Connor (played by Emilia Clarke).
However, upon arriving in the past, Kyle Reese finds himself in an altered timeline. He discovers that Sarah Connor is not the helpless waitress he expected but a highly skilled fighter who has been raised and trained by a reprogrammed Terminator called “Pops” (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger). Together, they have been preparing for the arrival of Skynet.
The trio learns that the timeline has been changed because of a new threat: a revolutionary operating system called “Genisys,” designed by Cyberdyne Systems, that will eventually lead to the rise of Skynet. Now, they must stop Skynet’s development and prevent Judgment Day from happening.
As the story unfolds, they encounter both old and new adversaries, including the T-1000 (played by Lee Byung-hun), an advanced liquid-metal Terminator. The mission becomes increasingly challenging as they face relentless pursuit and unexpected twists.
“Terminator Genisys” pays homage to the original “Terminator” film while introducing new elements to the franchise. The movie received mixed reviews from critics but was appreciated for its action sequences, visual effects, and nods to the original movies. Despite some criticism, it performed reasonably well at the box office, especially internationally, and has sparked discussions about potential future installments in the Terminator series.
