Red Fort also known as Lal Qila, is located in Old Delhi, India is a mughal fort built by Shah Jahan in the mid-17th century. It is one of the most important mughal landmarks and one of top tourist places in Delhi. It was the capital of Mughals until 1857.

The red fort has 5 main sections. These are:

  • Rang Mahal:

It literally translates as the “Palace of Colours”, and was used to house the emperor’s harem. It is made up of a single story with a large dome and many small pavilions around it. The walls are intricately decorated with precious stones, mosaics, and inlay work.

  • Diwan-e-Am:

It is a large hall that was used to hold public audiences and meetings. It is made up of a large platform surrounded by a double-storey octagonal structure. The walls of this structure are decorated with precious stones and inlay work.

  • Diwan-e-Khas:

This hall was used by the emperor to hold meetings with important people in his court. It is located in the center of the lal qila. This hall has a large platform, surrounded by double-story pavilions with domes. The walls of this structure are also decorated with precious stones and inlay work.

  • Hayat-Baksh Bagh (Life-Giving Garden):

It is a large garden located at the center of the fort. This garden consists of four main pavilions, with a large central pavilion and four smaller ones. This garden is also decorated with precious stones and inlay work.

  • Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque):

This mosque is situated to the west of the fort. It is a small, white marble mosque, with a single dome and three arched entrances. The interior of the mosque is elaborately decorated with precious stones and inlay work.
