Looking for a list of best places to visit in Chennai? When I visited Chennai this time, for a speaking session in SRM University, I just had 1 day to explore the city. So, I made a list of places that could be explored in just 1 day. Chennai, being the capital city of Tamil Nadu is huge and obviously crowded. The temples and tourist places are crowded most of the times, so you need to plan accordingly as you might have to stand in long queues to enter or buy tickets. I would suggest you to start early around 8:30, if you this will be your one day trip in Chennai. If you have 2 days, then you can be lazy and explore slowly, spending more time in one place.
Here are the places to visit in Chennai, even if you have just 1 day:
1) Kapaleeshwarar Temple
This is an old Shiva temple that dates back to 7th Century. It’s a must visit place as you love to visit old and beautiful temples. Visit during the aarti for a divine experience.
2) Parthasarathy Temple
This is also an old 8th century temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. Photography is not allowed inside the temple, so I couldn’t get photos. But the vlog that I have posted below has a glimpse of the temple.
3) Marina Beach
Marina beach in Chennai is India’s longest and world’s second longest beach. One has a to walk A LOT to reach near the sea. For a moment, I felt it’s a desert and not beach but then, the experience was good although it was very crowded. Watch the vlog to see what I mean.
4) Fort St George
This is India’s first English fortress that was founded in 1639 in Chennai. If you love visiting historical places, then you must visit this for a glimpse of History and beautiful life size portraits of royal family of England.
You can explore Chennai by take autorickshaws and cabs. Autorickshaw walas bargain a lot. Also, don’t forget to drink filter coffee from small coffee shops near the temples I mentioned. The taste is amazing!
