As the season to travel begins, here I am sharing the Manali to Leh road trip pitstops. I have been to a Ladakh road trip with my family and it has been one of the most memorable trips of my life and it will always be.

Let me brief you about my trip. My family drove from Kanpur to Delhi, then I joined them and we left for Shimla. After 2 days in Shimla, we left for Manali. There we spent another 2 days and then our road trip to Ladakh began. Below mentioned are the pitstops that will help you plan your road trip accordingly.
Manali to Ladakh road trip pitstops:
Manali 0km
Rohtang 50km
Kokhsar (village from where one road goes to Spiti and the other goes to lLadakh) 60km
Tandi 110km
Keylong (last petrol filling station, next you get in Ladakh) 120km
Jispa (tents stay) 142km
2-3 naalas on way – 145km
Paagal Naala (most powerful of all) 145km
Darcha (army checkpoint) – 150km
Zingzingbar (last camp before baralacha) – 173km
Baralacha La (3rd highest of ladakh, too much snow) 195km
Sarchu (best for night stay, stargazing, last village of Himachal pradesh) 227km

Gata Loops (21 loops that take you to height, snake-like road view from top, seen in many bollywood movies) 260km
Nakee La (probably 4th highest of ladakh) 270km
Lachulung La (tough roads) – 285kms
Pang (highest village, 15000 feet, can have headaches at night) 305kms
More plains (long stretch of 30-40 kms with scenic beauty of clouds and snow cladded mountains) 325kms
Tanglang La (2nd highest of ladakh, world second highest) 390km
Upshi (leh villages start) – 420km
Karu (army basecamp, road to Pangong lake goes from here) 430km
Leh – (your destination) – 470km
You may save this post if you are road tripping from Manali to ladakh on bike or car. I made this note when I took the road trip a few years back. With the recently inaugurated Atal Tunnel, the duration of travel reduces. It is tunnel that is a short-cut from Manali to Keylong that is built under the Rohtang Pass.
