How to take care of your books in monsoon?

Monsoon is a very beautiful season and I personally love it. But I cannot deny the fact that this season is very hard for books, especially when you have moist walls (aka seelan, in Hindi). It makes the books moist and humidity ruins the books. Even books can catch fungus during the monsoons if not taken proper care of. I have seen covers of the books getting torn because of moisture and pages coming out of it. Ouch! It hurts.

Therefore, I decided to share some tricks that I implement in order to take care of my books in monsoon.

Tips to take care of your books in monsoon:

  • Wipe and clean your bookshelf every 8-10 days. This will take off all the stubborn dust from it and prevent it from layering the books up. You can make it like your Sunday ritual too
  • Use a waterproof fabric to spread on the bookshelf and try to stick it on the wall. This will prevent the water and moisture to touch the books
  • If your books have already been kissed by the moisture that keep the book out of the shelf in the sunlight and allow it to try completely
  • If you bookshelf is in a place where there is no source of direct sunlight and the room is always moist and humid, then you must shift your bookshelf to a drier place
  • If your bookshelf is near a window or a door and there is source of water coming in, then make a shift immediately
  • You can cover your books using a book cover or sustainable waterproof sheet
  • DO NOT keep your books in a closely packed cupboard as it will ruin the books

I really hope this helps!
