|| Ganpati Bappa Morya || Ganesh Chaturhti 2022 is on 31 August!
It is Lord Ganesha’s birthday. The 11-day long festival will conclude on September 21 on the Anant Chaturdashi. This festival is celebrated in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh with zeal and joy. Some people bring a new Ganesh idol, worship it for 2 or N-number of days and then do visarjan; while some simply do puja on the Ganesh Chaturthi. In my place, we only do puja on Ganesh Chaturthi and don’t do the other rituals. Since I am from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in our region Ganesh Chaturthi day is most significant unlike in Maharashtra where Virsarjan vidhi is famous. Over the years, we have observed the rising trend in Visarjan vidhi here in U.P. as well.
Ganesh ji is also called as Vighnaharta, means someone who removes all the obstacles
How I do Ganesh Chaturthi Puja at Home
We start the day by cleaning our home-temple in the morning. This includes washing all the idols and cleaning the temple corners. Ours is a small wooden temple so it takes about an hour to do all this. Once it is clean, we re-arrange the idols by putting Ganesh ji at the center of the temple. Obviously, it is his birthday after all.
After doing the regular daily puja, we start to decorate the temple with fairy-lights and confetti.
Every year, Ganesh Chaturthi puja muhurat is different. This year in 2021, the shubh muhurat for Ganesh Chaturthi puja is between 11:03 am and 1:33 pm on 10 Sept.
Some people keep fast on this day as well, but I only do Ganesh Chaturthi puja and not observe the fast.
