I have been to Vaishno Devi temple thrice so far and every time I go there, I always stay at Hotel Ambica in Katra in Vaishno Devi.
There is a little story behind how we found this hotel. When we went to Vaishno Devi darber for the first time with my family, we booked a holiday home which is a facility for bankers and my dad was a banker by profession (and a traveller by passion). This was the hotel that we got and we were really happy with it, so we decided to stay again at this property when we visited the next time.

Hotel Ambica (also known as Cardinal Ambica Hotel)Â is located in the Katra, which is a small town located on the foothills of Trikuta parvat, the place from where trek to Vaishno Devi temple begins.
This is 4-star hotel is luxurious, eco-friendly and budget-friendly as well.
The Vaishno Devi Ban-ganga, the point from where trek/hike actually begins, is about 3 kms from this hotel which makes it a walkable distance. But you can also avail free drop service from the hotel to the banganga, the hike start point. The location of this hotel is very good as it is on the main road of Katra, amidst the market and lots of restaurants.
There is a 24×7 room service facility available at the hotel. But I would suggest you to take a walk down the road at any time round the clock as Katra is one such town that never sleeps, because of the pilgrims. Most of the food joints, restaurants and shops are open all night long.

The property is a huge lush green lawn at the backside of it which makes the mornings and evenings even more relaxing. Front-side of the hotel has a huge parking lot and some souvenir/puja item shops. There is also an ATM within the premises.
I really liked the hospitality of this hotel. The staff is polite and friendly. Room service is quick and food is yum. By the way, they serve pure-veg food only.
The room of Hotel Ambica are beautiful, spacious and equipped with required amenities like tea-maker, fridge, ac, tv, sofa-set, huge cupboard and toiletries. There is a 24×7 hot and cold water running through the taps. And yes, the hotel has a nice gym as well.
The view from all rooms is nice as front side rooms have road-view of the Katra town while back-side rooms have a view of mountains and the garden.
All in all, my experience of staying at this hotel has been good. The cost starts from rs 4500 per night but keeps on varying round the year.
