Gyuto Monastery in Dharamshala is one of the most popular and picturesque monasteries for tantric mediation and ritual arts by Buddhist monks.
The monastery has a magnificent Buddha statue along with many other fascinating things. I have always been a fan of monasteries as they give us a sense of peace and calm vibes. Apart from the Wat Pho temple of Buddha in Bangkok, this is my another favourite monastery.
It is located in Sidhbari which is about half-hour drive from Dharamshala city.
I had seen many beautiful photos of this monastery as the drop has beautiful snow covered mountains, but luck didn’t favour us the day I visited this pace as it was all cloudy and I couldn’t see any mountains in the backdrop,
BUT
I still consider myself lucky as
1) when we reached there, they had just started their special prayer ritual ( and they allowed me to shoot a glimpse of it too, vlog linked below)
and 2) it rained the moment we came out of the monastery which made the experience even more magical.
You know I first thought that all those photos were photoshopped and photographers might have added snow peaks in it but then I spoke to one of monks and they told that because its cloudy today, we are unable to see the snow peaks.
There is a monk school also where you can see a lot of little monks playing rounding, chanting and meditating.
Outside the monastery premises, there is a huge market with many cafes and gift shops.
All in all, I would highly recommend you to visit Gyuto tantric monastery if you are visiting Dharamshala.
