I am back from my Kashmir trip and I am mentally still there. Kashmir is so SO beautiful that I just cant put it in words. Poetry and songs do justice in expressing Kashmir’s beautiful. So, mine was a 6 days trip and I will share my initerary in detail in upcoming posts. In this one, I am sharing about the beautiful Gardens in Kashmir and everything you need to know. This will help you create a list of gardens to visit in Kashmir and also know the gardens betters.

The Gardens of Kashmir, also known as the Mughal Gardens, are a group of beautiful gardens located in the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. These gardens are renowned for their exquisite beauty, breathtaking landscapes, and rich historical significance. They reflect the grandeur and elegance of Mughal architectural and horticultural styles. One thing very interesting I saw was the ticket cost was same of all gardens, 24rs + GST for adults and 10rs + GST for kids.

1. Shalimar Bagh: Built by Emperor Jahangir in 1619, Shalimar Bagh is one of the most famous Mughal gardens in Kashmir. It is situated on the right bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar. The garden is spread across several terraces and features stunning fountains, manicured lawns, colorful flower beds, and numerous varieties of trees. Shalimar Bagh offers a captivating view of the Zabarwan Mountains and Dal Lake.

2. Nishat Bagh: Created by Asif Khan, the brother of Empress Nur Jahan, in 1633, Nishat Bagh is another enchanting Mughal garden situated on the banks of Dal Lake. It is renowned for its terraced layout, with twelve terraces representing the twelve signs of the zodiac. The garden is adorned with vibrant flowerbeds, cascading fountains, water channels, and beautiful Chinar trees. Nishat Bagh offers panoramic views of the lake and the snow-capped Himalayas.

3. Chashme Shahi: Constructed in the 17th century, Chashme Shahi is a charming garden located near the Rajbhawan (Governor’s House) in Srinagar. It was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan and is known for its natural spring of mineral water, which is believed to have medicinal properties. The garden features Persian-style architecture, terraced lawns, vibrant flowerbeds, and a series of beautiful cascades.

4. Achabal Garden: Situated in the town of Achabal, approximately 58 kilometers from Srinagar, Achabal Garden was built by Empress Nur Jahan in 1620. The garden is renowned for its unique blend of Persian and Indian architectural styles. It consists of beautifully laid out terraces, fountains, waterfalls, pavilions, and a central water channel running through the garden.

5. Pari Mahal: Located on Zabarwan Mountain range overlooking the city of Srinagar, Pari Mahal is a historic garden built during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan. It was initially a school of astrology and later transformed into a stunning garden. Pari Mahal offers panoramic views of the Dal Lake and the surrounding mountains. The garden is adorned with terraced lawns, flowerbeds, and traditional Islamic architecture.

These gardens are not only popular tourist attractions but also serve as a symbol of Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and the architectural brilliance of the Mughal era.
