Cafe Pondi is situated in Kalyani Nagar in Pune. I went for a lunch there & tried Appam with Gassi & Paan Pannacotta. This is about my honest experience and review of this restaurant.
I love to explore new places and try authentic regional cuisines. Cafe Pondi, as it’s name suggests gives you all Pondicherry vibes. The exterior and interiors are inspired by famous yolk-yellow French buildings of Pondicherry which already sets the vibes. I went there for lunch and tried Appam with mixed veg Gassi, Potato Wedges and Paan Pannacotta.
Fun Fact: I always ordered one of my regular favourites when trying a new food item, just in case I don’t like the new cuisine, at least I will get to eat something. So, you can excuse the mention of Potato Wedges, it’s always a good, no matter where you eat.
Food Review – Cafe Pondi, Pune
I tried Appam and Gassi for the first time here. Although I love south Indian cuisines but I never got a chance to try Appam. Appam is famous in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is a crisp pancake made with rice batter and coconut milk. It is served with some gravy. I ordered for which is a hot and sour veg curry. They also have other options like Appam with mixed veg stew and Appam with Paneer Chettinad.
The taste was really good and I highly recommend this dish.
In the sweet dish, I tried Paan Pannacotta; again a new dish. Panna Cotta is actually an Italian dessert which resemble gooey jelly custard. Here in Cafe Pondi, they have Paan Pannacotta which is a sweet custard in Paan flavour. At first I was a bit skeptical about trying this and wanted to order a cheesecake, a cupcake or maybe a brownie with ice cream, but since I was there to try something regional, I tried this and guess what? I loved it.
Cafe Pondi, Pune – Honest Experience
I really liked the ambience of this place and the decor. The indoor seating was closed when I went there, so we sat outside and it was really good. During the evenings, they have live music shows as well. The staff was less but apt, which was good as it’s didn’t feel crowded. The waiters were polite and service was quick.
The costing was also not much. Appam with Gravy is of Rs260, Potato Wedges is of Rs.170 and Paan Pannacotta is of Rs. 180.
Average cost of 2 people is approx. Rs.750
All in all, I recommend you to visit and have food at Cafe Pondi in Pune was a positive and delightful experience.
