Dybbuk Review: ‘You Must Watch it For the Sake of Its Plot’

We have seen a lot of Hindi & English horror films. Though I am really scared to watch horror films, especially alone, but I always watch horror films because of its plot. Yes, the storyline where they explain hows and whats of the ghost. And if there’s a folklore attached to it, then for me it is a cherry on top. This is the reason why I liked Dybbuk movie a lot. This is my honest Dybbuk review.

Starring Emraan Hashmi and Manav Kaul, Dybbuk is a story about Jewish folklore where a wooden box Dybbuk is used to capture an unsatisfied and cursed spirit to stop it from doing harm to the humans. This is Amazon Prime Original movie.

Story begins with showing the box which is a Dybbuk that has recently being brought to an antique shop. The caretaker opens the box and is found dead the next morning. Sam (Emraan Hashmi) along with his wife Mahi (Nikita Dutt) moves to an old mansion where his wife brings some antiques to his house for decor. She brings Dybbuk and hence begins the series of paranormal experiences. They found out that the box is a Dybbuk and Mahi is possessed. They need to perform exorcism and lock the evil spirit back in the Dybbuk box.

The story is fast and interesting. Although at one point I felt the movie to be slow but then again it catches up the pace. Some scenes are really spine-chilling because possessed Mahi is pregnant and that is even more terrifying.

There is a major plot twist towards the end of the movie which is very interesting.

We have seen horror movies like Raaz, 1920 and Shaapit but the plot was somewhat very common. But here, the plot is different. If you have been a fan of exorcism and conjuring kind of movies, then you will appreciate Dybbuk for its plot and storyline.

All in all, it is a good quality horror movie that can be watched with family (minus kids).
