If you’re not in fashion, you’re out of it. As an industry, fashion has been ruing the international commercial market for years. An integral constituent of fashion, one that has acquired massive popularity and stamped its authority in all corners of the world, is cosmetics. A plethora of beauty enhancement products – be it lipsticks, foundations, face powder or rouge, also called as blush – have entered the market; some that have cast an ineradicable impression.
Looking good and appearing presentable does not only fetch social acceptance but is also a confidence booster. When one looks good, they feel good about themselves. Admiration, appreciation and respect – who doesn’t seek these? Life is indeed too short to not look good. There are cosmetics for every occasion; be it a business meeting, a marriage ceremony, catching up with friends, or a lazy picnic with family.
Over the years, the cosmetic industry has experienced an upsurge in the number of markets it has successfully paved its way in. The emphasis to keep up with the times in terms of fashion and lifestyle, along with scores of fashion related products – be it in clothing, cosmetics, or accessories – that have arrived in the market, there is a definite spike the industry has witnessed.
It has been noticed by experts that one cosmetic that is most often used incorrectly or inaccurately by women is a blush or rouge, also called as blush. While some women may buy the wrong colour, the others may use it in excess than what will look good on them. The most popular and used kind of blush is powder. Offering a colour that is controlled, they aren’t recommended for women who have dry skin. Blush sticks, on the other hand, can have a denser colour effect; making their cheekbones appear overly made-up. They are best suited for women with oily skin. Creams too leave a prominent look on the wearer’s face; however, containing oils and moisturising ingredients, they are more used by women having dry to normal skin types. Liquid and gel blushes are more complicated to handle and should be used with care. While liquid doesn’t dry easily and leads to formation of smudges, gel blushes dry way too easily – at times even before blending. Gels can have a drying effect on the skin. Combination powder-creams, giving a radiant look to its wearer and more importantly a long lasting effect, is the most ideal kind of blush for women.
The usage of blush as a significant beauty enhancement product can be dated back to ancient Egypt. The Greeks were known to use crushed mulberries. Other naturally found substances like red beet juice, crushed strawberries and red amaranth are also recorded to have been used for giving the appearance of blushes. Blush was used by women on their lips during that time. Women during Victorian era resorted to pinching their cheeks or biting their lips to give their faces a beautified impression. In the 20th century, the French streamlined cosmetics and developed a fully fledged industry orbiting around beauty enhancement products. Ever since then, the industry has proliferated, amassing more and more customers each year.
While choosing the right colour of the blush is empirical, what’s equally important is the way it is applied. The process can get tricky, as the application largely depends on the face type of the wearer. Women with a longer face need to be given a wide-face appearance; and therefore they should apply the blush in a horizontal angle. Those with wider faces can go with a darker shade of the colour of the blush they are applying to use on the hollows of their cheeks. Some women also apply blush underneath the chin to conceal double chins. The most ideal way to use blush is by applying less in the beginning, and then adding more depending on one’s requirement.
All in all, blushes are used by women to given more definition to their cheekbones and a definite depth to their facial appearance. The trick to pull it off perfectly lies in choosing the correct colour and applying it to give a natural yet beautified look.
