I am a huge movie buff and if you are a regular reader of this blog or follow me on social media, you know this. When the teaser of this movie Bhediya was released in 2021, I got so intrigued to watch it, mainly because of the plot. If you have like watching 80s and 90s movies, you might have heard of Rahul Roy’s Junoon where he turns into a tiger on a full moon night. After that, I had not heard any such movie in India. Although the plot of werewolves is not new to the world, but certainly the first experiment in Hindi movie industry.
Bhediya starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon is a comedy horror/thriller movie released on 25 Nov 2022 in theatres in 2D and 3D. The plot is about a man named Bhaskar (Varun Dhawan) who gets bitten by a mysterious wolf in the jungles of Arunachal Pradesh, turning him into a werewolf.
Bhediya Movie Review
The movie begins with Bhaskar travelling to a small beautiful town Zero in Arunachal Pradesh for a highway project. He is here to convince the people and authorities of Zero that this highway will open doors of opportunities and growth for Ziro BUT they need to make it through the jungles by cutting it off.
People feel offeneded because the jungle is their lifelines. The local help Panda (Deepak Dobiryal) tells them about a mysterious creature Vishanu who protects the jungles and kills anyone who tries to cut the jungles. But Bhaskar and his cousin Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) and friend from Ziro, Jomin (Paalin Kabak) don’t believe in this.
In the course of events, Bhaskar gets bitten by a wolf in the jungle turning him into a werewolf.
The plot of the movie is very interesting. I really liked the VFX in this movie. The transformation from man to wolf and its closeup shots gave me goosebumps. There are some scenes that were really scary and since I was watching in 3D, it truly gave us chills.
I also liked the dialogues in the movie as the dialogues were mostly how we speak to our friends. This was the also the reason why it sounded so hilarious.
Every single cast in the movie did a fab job including Kriti Sanon who played the role of Dr. Anika who is Jomin’s friend and a vet my profession.
Deepak Dobriyal and Abhishek Banerjee were hilarious as usual but Paalin Kabak was no less.
All in all, the movie was really interesting and this was the reason why I watch it twice in the theatre, first with friends, then with family.
Hindi movie industry tried something new with Bhediya and did a fab job. It will be a folly to compare our Hindi movie with some werewolf movies made in Hollywood because our movies are made differently, full of emotions and often strong messages for the audience.
I really like how everything in the movie revolved around the fact that SAVE NATURE AND STOP CUTTING OFF FORESTS.
There is a dialogue in the movie that was really worth sharing here – Prakrati hai to pragati hai
This also makes me want to briefing mention about my digital initiative Responsible Yatri which is all about spreading awareness and bringing stores related to responsible travel, responsible tourism, ecotourism and sustainability. Do check it out and join the initiative.
Final verdict:
You must watch this movie with friends or family, even kids, for the sake of its plot, vfx, comic factor and mostly importantly for the sake of its mesmerising views of Ziro and jungles of Arunachal Pradesh.
