I look Indian cuisines, whether be rajma or chhole or south Indian cuisines like idli, dosa, uttapam! I am more of an Indian cuisine lover than westerns, though I love pastas and pizzas and noodles, but with South Indian and Punjabi cuisines, it is a never ending love affair. Whenever I travel, I firstly look for south Indian restaurants and in India, it is very easy to find. I have eaten at almost all good south Indian restaurants in India and here are my best picks. Check it out!

Best South Indian Restaurants in India

Sagar Ratna

This is one of the most common and popular south Indian restaurants in India. Almost all cities, whether Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur or Bangalore, have Sagar Ratna restaurants. Mostly the mall food courts and airports have Sagar Ratnas. These are budget friendly and serves super-yum South Indian food. Cost for two is approx 500 rs.

Dakshin

I ate in Dakshin restaurant in Chennai. It also has a branch in Delhi. Dakshin is a luxurious and fine-dine South Indian restaurant having a variety of South Indian cuisines to pick from. Their massive south Indian thali is a must try though. Cost for two is approx 1500 rs

Vaango

Vaango, just like Sagar Ratna, are mostly found in the shopping mall food courts or airports. This is also very budget-friendly south Indian chain serving good food. Their USP is their handy combos perfect for people like me, you cannot pick one – dosa or uttapam or idli, and want to eat everything thoda thoda! Cost for two is approx 500 rs.

A to B Restaurant

My first experience with A to B was in their Green park, Delhi restaurant. And I was so surprised to see that they serve 2 uttapams in 1 plate. Woah! That’s a treat! And then, this restaurant appeared as a saviour in Doha. This is an awesome south Indian restaurant chain where you get to experience the authentic taste. Surprising fact about this lesser known south Indian restaurant is that it is present in all over the world, from USA, to Dubai, Doha, Singapore and Bangkok. The only drawback I felt was most A to B restaurants, especially in South India, are non-ac. If you come across any A to B restaurants, do hop in and try out. Cost for two is approx 350rs.

Kamat Restaurant

Another south Indian restaurant with global presence, Kamat too is one of the most populars in this category. Most of their outlets are in South and West part of India but if you are in Delhi or going to Delhi, you can try it out there. Cost for two is approx 1000rs.

Udupiwala

Located in the Kathgodam area of Uttarakhand, Upudiwala is a very good south Indian restaurant for authentic South Indian food. We always take a stop at Upudiwala while going to Nainital. Their filter coffee and mysore masala dosa is love! Cost for two is approx 800rs.

Naivedyam

Naivedyam is a beautiful fine-dine South Indian restaurant chain famous for mainly Karnataka dishes. I have been to their Hauz Khas outlet in Delhi and it was a wonderful experience. Their food is just perfect and ambience, so luxurious. Since it is a fine-dine, the cost for two is approx 2000rs but totally worth!
