If Baku is on your travel list, one of the first things you will probably search for is Azerbaijan visa for Indians. And thankfully, the process is quite straightforward for Indian passport holders travelling to Azerbaijan for tourism.
I recently travelled to Baku myself, so I know how useful it is to have all the visa information in one place before you start planning flights and hotels.
Do Indians Need a Visa for Azerbaijan?
Yes, Indian ordinary passport holders generally need a visa to visit Azerbaijan.
The convenient part is that Indians are eligible for the Azerbaijan ASAN e-Visa, which means you can apply online instead of necessarily visiting an embassy for a regular tourist trip.
For a short holiday to Baku, the e-visa is generally the option most travellers will look at.
How Long Is the Azerbaijan e-Visa Valid?
The standard Azerbaijan e-visa is a single-entry visa valid for 90 days.
During this validity period, you can stay in Azerbaijan for up to 30 days.
So if you are planning a one-week, 10-day or two-week Baku holiday, the standard tourist e-visa should generally cover your trip.
What Is the Azerbaijan Visa Fee for Indians?
The standard government fee for the Azerbaijan e-visa is US$20, along with a US$9 service fee, making the total approximately US$29 when applying through the official system.
There is also an urgent processing option available for travellers who need their visa faster, although the fee is considerably higher.
Visa fees and processing charges can change, so always check the current amount when you apply.
How Long Does Azerbaijan Visa Processing Take?
The standard e-visa is generally processed within three working days.
There is also an urgent option that can be processed much faster.
However, my advice is simple: don’t wait until your flight is tomorrow.
Even when a visa is available quickly, applying well in advance gives you some breathing room if you make a mistake in the application or need to correct any information.
What Documents Do Indians Need?
The application is completed online and requires your passport and personal details.
One thing you should pay particular attention to is your passport validity.
Your passport needs to remain valid for at least three months beyond the expiry date of your e-visa.
And please double-check every detail before submitting the application.
Your name, passport number, date of birth and other details should match your passport exactly.
Should You Carry a Printed Visa?
Yes, I would definitely recommend carrying a printed copy of your Azerbaijan e-visa.
You can also keep the PDF saved on your phone and in your email.
Whenever I travel internationally, I like having important documents in more than one place. Phones can run out of battery, internet can disappear at the most inconvenient time and luggage can go missing.
So, for your Azerbaijan trip, keep:
- Printed e-visa
- Digital copy of e-visa
- Passport
- Return flight ticket
- Hotel booking
- Travel insurance
- Important contact numbers
What About Staying for More Than 15 Days?
If you plan to stay in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days, there is an additional accommodation registration requirement for foreign visitors.
The good news is that if you’re staying in a hotel, the hotel or accommodation provider can generally help with this registration.
So don’t panic if you see information about registration while planning your trip. Just make sure you understand the requirement based on the length and nature of your stay.
Can You Get an Azerbaijan Visa on Arrival?
Don’t plan your trip assuming that you can simply land in Baku and get a visa at the airport.
Indian travellers should check their eligibility and arrange the appropriate visa before travelling.
For a normal tourist trip, applying for the e-visa in advance is the much safer approach.
My Tips for Indian Travellers Visiting Azerbaijan
If you’re planning your first trip to Baku, I would suggest getting your visa sorted before booking non-refundable travel arrangements.
Also keep all your travel documents together. Have your hotel address, return ticket and travel insurance easily accessible.
And don’t forget that your visa is only one part of international travel preparation. You should also check your passport validity, airline requirements, baggage rules and any current entry requirements closer to your departure date.
