I was planning since really long time to visit to this church. Kanpur, my home city, has some really amazing old buildings and monuments. This time, I decided to visit this wonderful Church in my city – All Souls’ Church.
All Souls’ Church, also known as Kanpur memorial church, is a historic church located in Kanpur, India. It was built in 1870 by the British as a memorial to the soldiers who died during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The church is known for its beautiful architecture and stained glass windows.
The church is situated on a large piece of land near the Kanpur Cantonment area and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The church building is made of red brick and has a tall tower with a clock on it. The interior of the church is decorated with beautiful paintings and sculptures.
All Souls’ Church is also one of the biggest Churches in Uttar Pradesh. The church holds regular services and is open to visitors throughout the week. Visitors can also explore the church’s cemetery, which contains the graves of many British soldiers and civilians who died during the Indian Rebellion.
The premises of this church is huge and amidst the jungle. Rumours have it, that some parts of this place is also haunted but I don’t want to comment on this angle of the story.
I visited this Church on Christmas and it was so beautifully decorated from inside, but clicking photos was not allowed because I visited on the Christmas day (yes, this is a late post :D). It was a wonderful experience. It didn’t make be feel like I am in Kanpur, it felt like Goa. I even posted a reel on my instagram and people guessed it all wrong, some said Goa, some even said Pondicherry.
Anyway, if you are planning to come to Kanpur, do visit this old and beautiful Church.
