Travel To Goa For The Sao Joao Festival

Goa set for one more festival that gives a peek into its culture. The annual Sao Joao festival is said to be one among the main attracts of Goa for tourists during the monsoon season. It Goa’s best monsoon festival. It was celebrated with grandeur and gaiety aboard the Shantadurga cruise boat close to Panjim jetty. It is organized by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) which is dedicated to St. John the Baptist that is celebrated on June 24 each year.

The festival offers lots of fun. Guests are welcomed with crowns made from leaves known as ‘kopel’. The occasion is marked by cultural programs like live Goan song and dance performances, along side traditional Goan cookery. As per tradition, this fest witnesses young men who try jumping into wells and then distributing fruits among villagers sporting ‘kopel’ that could be a real treat to observe.

Later there’s a fancy dress competition followed by the standard float parade and a live band performance by the renowned music bands of Goa. It is one of the best festivals in Goa. It is a perfect time to experience the culture and traditions of Goa. The climate is pretty good and the festivities make it even more beautiful.

There are various colors of Goa and this festival is one such way to explore the colors of Goa. So, If you planning for a Holiday in around second half of this year, You should surely visit Goa in the month of June for this wonderful festival.
